If you won Homecoming Queen, and if you won junior superlatives (like "most likely to change the world") I go to a school with a senior class of about 1400 by the way.

Probably not. Homecoming queen/king is a popularity contest, and superlatives aren’t accredited by teachers or some other important institution; they’re just what a bunch of students feel like voting on.

Okay, thanks. It’s just that I saw it listed on a sample resume and I was like “whaaaat we can do that?” hahaha :)

Just in case you’re looking for a second opinion, I’d take it one step further: definitely not.

no, has no effect

Not only shouldn’t you put it on your resume, but it would not be appropriate seeing as though homecoming queen did not effect your grades and teachers did not choose it as a reflection of things you have done.

I think it’s fine to include on your resume that you were homecoming queen. There’s nothing wrong with winning a popularity contest. At least it indicates that you get along with your peers. If you also have good grades and scores, being elected homecoming queen also would indicate that even though you’re very accomplished, you have the ability to get along with all sorts of people.

Depending on the senior superlative, it could be fine to include those, too, on a resume. It’s probably not good to include something like, “best party animal” or “best at getting good grades without studying.” :)

I agree that these shouldn’t be put on the resume, but just to play devil’s advocate… if the problem is that these awards are “popularity contests”, doesn’t that disqualify the officer positions in which one is elected by popular vote, especially those requiring little action after election?

Tricky! I was wondering the same thing when I was filling out my college apps, but I decided not to put on anything like that because I don’t want colleges to think that I think HC court & superlatives are equal to my ECs. I feel like that might drag my EC legitimacy down - you know?

I’d include “Most Likely to Succeed” or “Best to Bring Home to Mom/Dad”

Ok so Im taking it that these other posters were clearly not homecoming queens :o)…You should certainly include that title (as well as any other pagaent titles) that you’ve held on your resume. I just so happened to have won a pagaent my sr. year of college, and included it in the extra-curricular portion of my resume. While interviewing (in the medical field fyi) nearly every potential employer asked me about it, and yes I was offered every position I interviewed for! If nothing else it makes for a good icebreaker :o)…
