I'm trying to get into some top schools, ives and such. I know that many factors go into admission, but just on bare stats alone, what are the chances that i'll get into a place like Uchicago or Cornell??

I've taken 7 AP classes and 2 honors classes. I didn't do well my freshman year, got 6 B's, that's probably why my GPA is low. I've had nothing but perfect A semesters afterwards except for my 5th semester.

I do realize my GPA is quite low, but I really can't do anything about it now can i? ^_^
I was a straight D student in junior high, but changed my ways, I hope that counts for something...

I'm going to take the ACT on Dec 10th as well, trying to aim for a 34. Do you think that may allow me to contend for HYP (harvard, Yale, Princeton)?

No, that's not enough, the minimum to get into those schools is 4.0 gpa, 2400 SAT, 36 ACT, 800 on atleast 5 SAT II's and ECs that take up all the time you are not in school or sleeping... j/k... you're scores are just fine

Well at least your grades are improving throughout high school (middle school grades are not taken into consideration, except maybe if you're applying to certain Christian or liberal arts colleges). Colleges would much rather see B's in freshman year, changing to A's junior/senior year. Compared to others in your class, how are you doing? What's your class rank?

class rank... lol
It's not very high. I go to a highschool in Alaska, so things are very different than the lower 48. I started with a class size of over 1000 students but now I'm only down to 254... kind of a survivor game. The GPA of everyone on top is extremely marginal. If I raise my GPA up by .01, i know I can go up by atleast 5 students.

I'm 24/254 so top 10%, but just barely, nothing impressive

I also come from a low income family (about $30,000 a year). So:
