My son would like to take a three-week Summer at Brown course. He is considering adding a second course - which is allowed - but I wonder if it is overload. Some of the info says that students can plan on 1-3 hours daily of homework per class. Both classes are math and science - nothing lightweight. Has anyone taken two courses?

This depends on your son’s preparation and motivation. I can say that’s significantly less work than I had in high school or in college, but the difference is your son may want to relax over the summer. It’s certainly doable, but it depends on him.

I took a leadership course which takes up more time than most other precollege courses, but most of my precollege friends taking one course thought they had too much time on their hands - not that this was bad as they got to hang out a lot, but it depends on how much hanging out you want to do.

Thanks for your help. His first choice class meets at 3:40, so it just seems like a long time to wait if he only takes one class. Scheduling-wise, it would be easy to add a class in the morning with a break during the mid-day. He’s very motivated and eager to take both, so I’ll probably go along with it.
