I am helping my son get set for Summer School at his college. He needs to do Math and english prep. The schedule calls for 3 classes from 10am to 4:30 pm with breaks in between.

What do you think? too much?

You might want to consider just 2 classes instead of 3. While the hours you mentioned that he will be at school don’t sound that bad, you also have to consider that each of those classes are going to require a certain number of hours of study time. Summer classes are awesome because you get through them so much faster than regular length semesters. But that is also part of the problem as well.

Because they cram so much into the shorter summer semesters it can make it much more rigorous. You have to spend more time in class, more time studying, and you have to get projects done faster. There is probably going to be much less time between tests so it can make it really hard in math if you fall behind.

If he takes just 2 classes he will still be working pretty hard, it just won’t be as tough. Going to class during the summer is a great idea. The thought that you always get to take summers off never made sense to me at all. When you take 2 classes in the summer it is a little more relaxing, than a regular semester, because you only have to juggle/organize the 2 instead of organizing 5 or 6. It will be demanding but not as much as a regular semester.
