UC officials said that some classes will be online while others will be in person. I looked online and realized that all of my classes will be online. I am torn. I would love to return and be in the dorms with my friends. However, the libraries will be all closed except one. All my classes will be online. Joining clubs will be challenging and at this point, there is no plan for how social life will be on campus. Can anyone give me any reason why would anyone of us would return to Cal?
I am not sure what you are asking. If you are an international student, you should add one of the on campus courses if you want to stay in the country - insurance if the government doesn’t extend the no-online rule exemptions (I expect they might). Otherwise, yes, your classes will be online and you will have to take them from your home, wherever that is. No, campus will not be the same, but everyone’s options are the same: make the best of it or postpone your education for a year or two. It’s not a great choice, we all know that, but it is the hand you were dealt.
Why come back? Because UCB is an internationally recognized school in a fun, warm and sunny locale?
I live in CA. My question was is basically what is the incentive of returning to Berkeley and staying in the dorms, not having the normal College experience, and paying over 9k for room and board? I am struggling to justify the cost. What would be really the benefit for returning when everything is either resticted or cancelled.
I don’t know what others think, but your reasoning certainly makes sense to me.
However, I think UCB administration may make changes on the policy from time to time according to the situation.
