<p>Sadly, POIH, I would have agreed with before reading your posts in this thread. I didn't think "Higher institutes Of learning," should give athletes any special admissions boost. Honestly though, I had never really thought about the revenue, alumni support, etc. sports generated. Now I disagree with you, and your complex "logic" that only you can understand. One thing I did Learn from you Though was To capitalize Random words in Every sentence.</p>
<p>I find it funny how you bring everything back to the Olympics. If research is so important, though, shouldn't we quit sports altogether? Or should we focus on athletics so we don't lose to "lowly Greece." Pick a side.</p>
<p>You make it sound like students take up sports just to get into elite schools. Playing sports in college is ridiculously competitive. See if you can find information about students playing college sports from your daughter's high school. I know from my school, we generally send about 20/300+ students to college for athletics. About 5 of those are D1. Unless you are naturally gifted at sports or started playing in elementary school, you WON'T play college ball. I don't think many 3rd graders are too worried about Ivy League admissions. </p>
<p>You also claim that inventing Google/Intel is the only way to benefit society because it provides jobs and makes people rich. Sports provide many, many people with jobs.
architects for stadiums
maintenance workers
agents
managers, coaches, trainers, etc.
If you want me to get really specific
ESPN and all of it's employees
all other sports newspaper writers, radio hosts, broadcasters
casinos (or wherever you bet on the games)
even the people that control little league and other kids' sports
video games, the designers and everyone that works on the games</p>
<p>I'm sure I'm forgetting thousands of other jobs. The point is that sports not only provide entertainment, but jobs for millions of people.</p>
<p>Your views are not bad POIH. The problem is the way you approach this forum.
Here is a simplified version of your "logic":
1.) Post on an anonymous internet forum declaring your views, asking for responses.
2.) After you read the replies, you reply to the people that agree with you, thanking them for their support.
3.) If someone opposes your view, you either A.) ignore them or B.) Tell them they do not understand your advanced logic.
If B.) You either a.) tell them they are accepting the common publics views and can't think for themselves. or b.) tell them that you have done advanced research and are qualified to talk on the given topic.
4.) Continue to enforce your view no matter how badly people are ripping you, your logic, and your view apart.
5.) If all else fails, conclude with "You people don't understands my views. I am endings thisss discussions likes a gentlemans. GoodBi." or something along those lines. </p>
<p>I'm not really sure why I bothered typing this whole thing out because you will just pull a 3A in your simplified logic system. (refer to the above chart, if you don't know what 3A is).</p>
<p>Oh yes and one more thing. You claim not to fall for the common publics view on anything, yet you refer to the USNews College Rankings as your bible. Those rankings are about as mainstream as you can get. </p>
<p>I would just like to end this post with a little series of posts
POIH- "Have a life and leran something before opening mouths. Same goes for losobos1."
POIH- "When a Simpson or Kobey Bryant become rich What they do is anyone guess."
Loslobos71 - "Kobe didnt go to college..."</p>
