...who ever said drunks were outcasts? keeping your head in a textbook and wrapping your lips around a bottle of booze (along with clubs, activities, volunteer work, etc.) are ALL components of a complete college experience. You don't have to choose between one or the other. Most college students do both.

Hey what's with all the slacker bashing? Just because you don't do a lot of work doesn't mean you aren't doing well in your classes. In fact, my ideal scenario would be becoming a very good slacker, so I have more time to get wasted/do other things.

To answer the OP's question: no, I'm not getting wasted.
I think the taste of beer is absolutely disgusting and gag anytime I drink it.

I also (sense) that I may have an underlying of alcoholism simply because on the very rare occasions that I do drink, I do it to solely to get tipsy and not for the enjoyment of the drink - therefore, I try to avoid drinking.

"And it's better that he's socially non-knowledgeable rather than a drunken outcast."

I'm thinking that it's the socially non-knowledgeable ones, not the drunks, who end up being outcasts... Just a guess.

it's probably safe to say that many people who drink don't do it solely because they love the taste of liquor..

Many people also shove knives down their throats. What's your point?

Hahaha this is hilarious. If you think that people who drink are slackers, you better grow up quick because you're going to be working for us one day.

hey I love the taste of rum, I don't know what you guys are talking about (that is the alcohol I drink the most of). But I do drink some alcohol (beer, mainly) because it'll get you drunk, certainly not because it tastes good because most beer is gross!

i've actually come to love the taste of beer... but i'm canadian. we love our beer up here. my favourite beer i've tried is actually american, though, called blue moon.

I don't really drink anymore because I just can't handle the hangovers.

wine, rum, vodka, mixed drinks > beer
i don't like the taste of beer either...so i drink other things. if you're at a party where they "only have beer" quickly become friends with whoever's throwing the party and they'll give you the good stuff. ;)

i loooove beer (mostly dark beer; if i have no money i prefer PBR). it's so bad for you, though..pretty much like drinking an entire loaf of bread.

i try not to drink liquor any more at all. it's bad news..had a reallyy rough night after drinking bacardi razz in like september and for weeks i couldn't even use raspberry hand soap or eat raspberry yogurt without my stomach turning..i can't believe freshman year i could just swig vodka from the bottle hahah

I sense a couple people are already drunk.

Well, it's your money. Go ahead and waste it if you wish, I suppose.

I just want to majorly point out that he shouldn't let others impose anything on him that's... intentionally negative. Be sure to make your own choices, and don't do anything because you feel you should be joining in. If you decide to party and drink, that's fine. Nothing's particularly 'wrong' with it. Just as long as you do it responsibly, and with nothing but having pure fun in mind (not ulterior motives).

That's all I'll say.

leah, I had a similar incident with tequila in the spring. I just recently had it (in a mixed drink, not by itself) for the first time since then, and I was still a bit 'eurgh' afterward.
I can drink some rum straight though, I love it (coconut or spiced).
Vodka, not so much just because I think it's kinda yucky (and it burns).
Beer, the only ones I will drink from the US are bud light and sometimes coors. Miller, natty, keystone, regular bud= ewwww. Most of the beer in the US is gross; it tastes like moldy bread to me. Heineken is okay, and some other European beers (unfortunately, it's mostly the ones we don't get here).

meh I'm scared about drinking in college... cause I tend to loose it. It's really not good. I know my tolerance, and I know its low... like half a wine cooler gets me tipsy, but I generally wont stop at that and have been known to down 7-8 shots of vodka... which belive me is probably not a pretty sight. Tend to loose control

I actually care about my health, so no, I don't get wasted. I don't even drink soda.

I gag before I can get the alcohol down. Yes,im seriously that much of a pu**y

yeah, but he obviously has NO social life. It sounds like he doesn't even leave his room

so... you need to drink to have a social life? i guess i will have ABSOLUTELY no social life in college then...

No, you don't need to drink to have a social life. I know two types of people who don't drink who still have social lives:
1. people who hang out with others who drink but don't drink themselves. I have a couple friends like this- they have the combined patience of several saints. Also really great senses of humor. You need a good sense of humor to be the only sober person in a group of drunks (I've done it- oh boy. it's amusing, but only for a while).
2. people who refuse to hang out with people who drink and thus only hang out with other sober kids. there are several girls on my hall who are like this. they are exactly the kind of girls you would expect would choose to live in an all-girls' dorm. they either stay in the dorms on weekends or go to campus-sponsored events with each other.
