are you guys definitely going to stanford?

im not sure about me... i live less than 20 minutes away and i think it might just be too close to the parentals... i'll wait until i here from other colleges before deciding... how about you guys?

not sure either.. it's my first choice, but it depends on how much i've gotta pay in the end

^ exact same situation. can't decide if i want to put myself into debt at 18 or go to a diff. school that i could have it all paid for.

I'm going, even w/ no fin. aid. I'll have to apply for tons of scholarships... :(

But, GO CARDINAL!!! :D

After financial aid and all, students graduate with an average of about $15,000 of debt. That's not that bad really. I think it's totally worth it.

My parents will probably have to pay the full 200k, and I feel guilty making them pay for it. I mean, every day I'm there, I'll wake up thinking.. today costs 500$ (!)

I'll have to apply to a lot of outside scholarships or something..

how many scholarships have you guys applied to already?

I don't really have a first choice right now - everything will depend on how my east-coast/scholarship apps go and where I like it more. This is assuming that I do get into more schools...hm..

i've applied to about 8 scholarships, i did two yesterday bcuz now i know i'll really need the cash lol

Do Finaid packages vary a lot between top schools?

I'm applying to others (Yale, Columbia, perhaps Princeton) to compare Finaid, but Stanford is my top choice. Aren't outside scholarships veerrrryyy competitive? How many will you have to apply to and actually receive to make a dent in the debt?

It's funny how we automatically begin to worry about these things once the worry of getting in, which has occupied us for months, is gone. :)

thechaostheory15, I'm in a similar postition. I live 1.5 hours away and my grandparents live 5 minutes away!
A little too close I think. But we'll see.

I've been accepted (and am overjoyed, of course) but somewhere in the back of my mind I'm still nervous that I'm nowhere near as smart as I need to be to go to Stanford. Without being pretentious, do you guys all consider yourselves geniuses? As far as I can tell, I'm just a motivated nerd. I skimmed the topics you wrote essays on, and I'm even more shocked that I got in. Any thoughts?

The Stanford Adcom has been at this a long time. From what I hear: 1) everyone feels like this (I know I do) 2) the Stanford community sounds different than its east coast counterparts (at least the impression I got from Harvard) is that its very laid back, so there is an understanding that everyone is smart, but you dont have to prove it at Stanford, 3) you can always transfer if you don't like it 4) trust in the adcom, if the environment appeals to you (laid back, sunny, etc), then you should understand that you belong there.

My ex-boyfriend goes to Stanford, and when we were still dating I visited him.
Please don't worry about feeling stupid. Many people feel like they won't be good enough, but if Stanford felt you were good enough, you probably are. All of his friends were very nice and very fun, and they didn't talk about intelligence, nor did they care where any of their classmates fell into that category. And they certainly don't consider themselves geniuses. Neither do I, but I know I'll do just fine.
Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Yea, outside scholarships are tough to get. And I'm gonna hafta apply to SO MANY just to even make a dent in the cost.. poor parents..

yeah, i sometimes feel like i'm not "smart" enough. but then i realized that if i wasn't "smart" enough, i would not have been admitted

I think virtually every Stanford student feels like they aren't smart enough to be there.

I'm a junior, and I still feel like I'm not smart enough a lot of the time. (Sorry for being on this thread that I don't really belong in.)

Well, what it really feels more like is that I'm a slow learner and a lot of people catch on to concepts faster than I do, and there are people who do amazing things (like travel to South America to work in a community health clinic or write children's books) that make my volunteering with kids look totally unimpressive. However, it just offers great perspective and shows me how much is really out there in the world, and how much is possible. I cannot think of any "jerks" - the atmosphere is so supportive. While people are of course concerned with school work and doing well, there's always someone there for you.

Plus, I've found out that it can be extremely fun and interesting to hang out with awesome-amazing-genius people from around the world... It stuns me to think that the guys and gals I'm sitting and watching movies with are so exceptional!

The point of this rant/rave is that you shouldn't worry about inadequacy =] A big congratulations to all of you, and I'm sure that if you choose to attend Stanford, you can have a wonderful time and learn a lot from some super people.

I'm going!!! for sure now!

I'm definitely going. Stanford was the only college I applied to. I might send in an application to Princeton to compare financial aid, but I stanford has been my first choice for a long time!
