I got into Cornell ED but got into an EA school before Cornell's results came out. I know I'm supposed to withdraw all of my applications, but what if I already got into the school? Am I supposed to email to say that I can't attend or do I simply just not submit a deposit?

My son’s HS provided seniors with printed postcards that basically said thanks but no thanks. I think it’s common courtesy to let them know so they can tend to their waitlists.

You can just email admissions at the EA school. However, if you have applied for need based financial aid at Cornell, don’t withdraw any applications until you have seen your FA package and confirmed it is workable for you financially.

The estimated FA offer comes with the acceptance. You won’t know your final FA offer until well after the jan 24th deadline to pay the deposit, though. (Probably April). Those packages can change if 2013 income was different than 2012. So, D withdrew her EA acceptances…hope that wasn’t a mistake. I don’t imagine most schools would offer more (or significantly more) than Cornell would anyway.

bubb: in the time it took you to make the multiple posts and to read the replies, you easily could have just emailed the EA school to decline their admission several times over.

Okay thanks! I just felt like emailing would be a hassle for the schools because of how many emails they probably receive about withdrawals. An online form on the student portal would be simpler, but I’m probably overlooking a complication since a lot of schools don’t do that. Anyways, I just wanted to make sure :)

D had 4 other acceptances (from small to very large colleges) that she emailed. They all responded back with good wishes. I’m sure they appreciated knowing early so they could give others opportunities. Plus, it’s part of your ED agreement :)
