Are you the same religion as your parents?

My dad's a devout Catholic (and raised me and my sister the same way), and my mom is more of a deist, despite being baptized as Catholic. She believes in God, she's spiritual, but she isn't a believer in any specific religion.

I'm a Christian, but I don't want anything to do with Catholicism anymore. And for what it's worth, my sister's an atheist.

If you're asking me, Tubachick, it doesn't really. The only rough spot is the fact that my Dad isn't too happy with the fact that I'm now a feminist. Pshhhh...lol

My mom's christian, but not like the fundamentalist kind...she's really tolerant, not strict or anything, just tries to live a good life (lol), etc...

I'm also christian I guess but it's pretty difficult to base all my values/beliefs in one word...Christian isn't really adequate. Some of my beliefs fall more in line with Deism and etc.

I find it amazing that on CC, from what I skimmed in 30 seconds, (as I never really read anything fully on here), 90% of you people seem to be of a different religion than your parents...

95% of people I know IRL have the same religion as their parents so.

My mom is Christian; my dad was agnostic up until a couple years before he died, when he became Christian as well. I'm Christian too, so yes, I am the same religion as my parents.

My boyfriend's mom was raised Mormon but left the church. I think maybe his dad's family is Christian but I'm not sure and I know neither of his parents go to church. My boyfriend himself was agnostic/atheist for a long time but started coming to church with me and now considers himself Christian too.

My dad is Catholic when he maried my mom she swiched from Presbiterian to Catholic. I am Catholic also.

My mom and dad are both Christians and prefer the Methodist Church.

I'm a Christian, but I hate the Methodist Church, and really, I hate most churches, hypocrisy and all that. My religion is strictly a personal affair.

Dad raised Catholic- I think he's agnostic or atheist now. I've never really talked about religion with him... (not because I don't want to- it's just never come up).
Mom raised in a protestant denomination and still is. She thinks I am too... (I clearly am not open about my religious views with her).

Me- agnostic theist I guess? I definitely believe there's something out there, but don't know or care enough. I hold a lot of neo-pagan beliefs though, interestingly enough.

INVENIAMVIAM- while I'm not Christian, I absolutely love the methodist church. However, what I've found is that Methodist churches in the North are drastically different from the South, which I guess is what you're used to in Georgia.

Invoyable- mayhaps those who reply to this thread are just more likely to have a different religion?

@Invoyable: I was thinking the same thing - I don't know many people IRL who are a different religion from their parents. I think it has something to do with the fact that most people on CC are very intelligent and motivated kids, and people who are more intelligent are more likely to question something they've been taught all their lives. I may be wrong, but it's just an observation. :)

Also it's more of how they were raised...seems to be that a lot of people on here were loosely raised with their religion (as I was, nothing forced or threats like "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL IF YOU DON'T EAT THESE PICKLES RIGHT NOW, YOUNG MAN!") I see this ALL the time.

I know many many intelligent people, who can question everything, are logical, etc; but when the issue of religion comes up they just cannot think the same way, it's a childhood thing when it's done and difficult to get rid of even when they're older.

Yeahhh, I just don't like everything because it's so ... methodical? lol, obviously expected from a Methodist church. Other than that, it's fine, like... the balance of singing/preaching/everything. I like that all right, but it always seems like we do the same thing everrrrryyyyyy Sunday :</p>

Plus I'm on a rebound from a terrible church with the MOST BORING PASTOR EVERRRRRR.

^^ It's kind of a cycle, I think. A certain environment fosters an intelligent, questioning child who then questions the boundaries of the environment, etc. :p Or something like that. It made more sense in my head.

My parents are Russian Orthodox, as am I (It's Christian) But my stepdad is Jewish, and now my little sister will also be raised as Jewish.

It's all very very confusing. I do prefer the Catholic church much more than the RO church, because there the services are about 5 hours and you have to stand the entire time. Also women need to wear head coverings.

Both of My parents were raised Jewish and I dont know exactly what my mom thinks, but my dad has expressed his disbelief in The Torah, and once or twice called it ridiculous. Both my sisters and I were raised jewish, and while my older sister seems into it, I stay "Jewish" because i really love the culture, and my jewish friends at temple. Don't know what my little sister thinks. Also, living in Texas, I know alot of people of the variety Invoyable was talking about.

my parents were both raised in a catholic missionary school in pakistan.

My parents raised us catholic, but most of us aren't really religious, more like "Wealthians". lol

My father is atheist, though is more like pessimist.
My mother is christian, but not practicing.

I am a born-again.

^ Wow, that rarely happens. I know very few Christians who come from non-practicing Christian parents.

my father was raised a catholic but he's more towards the athiest side
my mother was raised and is a catholic
my grandmother (who lives with me) and i were catholic but converted to christianity
it doesnt really affect our family since catholicism and christianity are so similar and my dad doesnt really care

my parents were and are hindus..
I on the other hand am yugic.... my religion is yugioh.

sike nah but did you guys really hear of how there are more star-wars fans than other religion followers so many fans collected together to make star wars a religion. They were having trouble making it cuz of UN.

Both of my parents are Catholic and I am Catholic. I'll be getting confirmed in October. I'd have to say my family is pretty religious (we try to attend mass every Sunday and I try to pray as often as I can); my dad's very religious though.

My mom was and most of her family were born catholic and then converted and are now protestant

My dad i have no clue. He believes in Jesus and God but ive never seen him in Church so i dont know. I know his family is protestant but i think they may used to be catholic as well

As for me ive went to catholic school my whole life so ive been exposed to both protestants and Catholicism and i dont really like both. I mean i believe in God and the bible but i dont believe in everything that catholics or protestants say. If you read the bible youll see that a lot of hte thigns in it can be interpreted in different ways and i think moat religions twist and interpret the stuff in the bible to support something they say
