The prompt this year doesn't say to "write a note." Does that mean they don't want it in a letter format? Or does it even matter if it's in letter form or regular essay form?

I did mine in letter format, but very casual in nature.

the prompt kind of leads me away from that...so I'm not going to waste words on the whole letter structure...

I say Dear Future Roommate and Sincerely, X but other than that I could take those out and it would still work.

I think the way they phrased the question they want to know about you (so not a letter).

I think a middle path is best! The way they have phrased the question does not ask for a letter. But, a letter provides you with a cover for a slightly more informal medium for having a conversation with your roommate. So, I am currently going with a letter-cum-essay. what about others?

I asked my aunt about this and she thought it would be best to stay away from the letter format. After looking at the question a bit more closely, I agree with her. Notice it doesn't say write something directed to your roommate, but instead to write something about you in general. That would lead me to believe they want something in an essay form. Just my 2 cents.
