My situation is that I have to decide which one of those two schools to go to. I have a full tuition scholarship for ASU, so that is a huge factor. I also got accepted into the Barret Honors College. AioP is obviously expensive, but I was very impressed with their open house. They do have some scholarships I am going to check out, including one called the Merit Scholarship.

In regards to quality of education, which do you think is better? I understand it's be an easy ride for me to go to ASU, but I just want to know which would better prepare me for the field of graphic design.

ASU has a very strong rep in the arts, and is a solid choice for graphic design. The AI chain of schools, to be quite blunt, does not have a very good rep in the arts or in graphic design. Although it’s your portfolio that gets you most design jobs, if you plan to try to get a full time job for a company, your having come out of a reputable school can help. In addition, the AI of Phoenix is not regionally accredited, so if you decided to transfer, or to go on for a masters degree, your coursework from the AI may not be acceptable to other schools. It’s also very expensive.

You have a full ride at ASU? That is sweet. Seriously consider ASU.

I do realize that the College of Design at ASU has a great reputation. It’s the fact that I don’t really know too much about the Art Institutes. They did present themselves very well when I went to their open house. From what you both have said so far though, it seems ASU would be a much better choice. There’s also the fact that I won’t have to worry about tuition so that’s a definite plus.

Also, RoaringMice, thanks for letting me know they’re not regionally accredited. I was not aware of that.

I am a parent who has a daughter in the same situation as you. deciding to transfer to ASU or Arizona Art Institute in graphic design. What did you decide? Any information would be appreciated.
