Choosing Between Schools (Art major) Need info

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any information/experience on the visual art programs/school in general with the following institutions:

Arizona State
California College of the Arts
College of Santa Fe
University of Colorado at Boulder
University of North Carolina at Asheville
Warren Wilson

I have to choose between all of these for my undergrad, and considering I live far from each school, obtaining any kind of info or advice would be exceptionally helpful. I want to go to CCA, but not sure if going to all-arts school is good for an undergrad, when I could double major at a university. Thank you.

What specific area of visual arts are you interested in? Are you interested in earning a BFA or BA?

I started at ASU but wasn't in the art program.

The fine arts aren't highly ranked to my knowledge, although I think photography was.

The design program is phenomenal.

And arizona is a great place to live if you love heat :)

Findmepete, I'm interested in earning a BFA in either illustration or fine arts. I'm not exactly sure. Sorry I didn't mention that earlier.

And thanks for that tidbit on ASU, emifinan.

Look up Dan Mayer in the Fine Arts Department at ASU. He makes and prints handmade books and has been there 25 years or so. He is very knowledgeable about the arts in the southwest area and knows many people who can help you decide. I believe there is an art school near ASu that begins with a C but I can't recall the name.

Collins College is right by ASU and it's an art school.

But it's not well ranked, and it's only a 3 year program. I've talked to art/design students at ASU and Collins and the general consensus is that ASU is better, and their graduatess are favored by employers over Collins.

Collins College is actually a for-profit "trade school" and should not be considered in the same category as ASU, CCA, CSF, or any of the other schools mentioned by the OP. Collins' only accreditation comes from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).

I believe the school at ASU is called Herberger College of Art.

I know a lot about Cal Arts eventhough I didn't go there. This is the first Art School in California originally named Chouinard after a widow artist. It was funded by Disney and many Disney artist came from there. Also there is a co-ed nude pool from what I heard. The school is located in the middle of the desert so be prepared to drive or just hang out with locals. The animation and dance program are top. Although the animation program is outdated placing an emphasis still on 2D animation.

I'll be sure to contact Dan Mayer and get his input. Still, info/experience about the others on the list would be way rad.

As far as CCA charlac...middle of the desert? I thought the school was in Oakland and San Francisco? And I don't think there's a dance program. Perhaps you're confusing schools...?

Thank you all for the insight! It's been helpful. Please, keep it coming.

I believe he means California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) and not California College of the Arts (CCA)

My mistake.
