My plan is to double major visual arts/ english lit. With my Columbia app, I included my portfolio, and have had contact w. the department. Do you think that sort of thing helps at all?

My S sent a slide portfolio with images that he used to get him accepted to RISD. I would say that if your talent is very advanced and stands out, possibly then it would be a plus.

thanks for the insight. I almost applied RISD since they have some kind of dual-degree program with Brown, but never got my bicycle finished... but my best friend is waiting to hear back from them as a photography major. Is he there now or 09 potential?

He got in for the class of 08 but deferred as they offered little financial aid.
He took a gap year, worked on his essays and applied to Columbia along with some other LAC's and Ivies (Brown). He got an "early write" from Williams with pretty decent $$. It would be funny if he were accepted at Brown with the RISD connection. Where else did you apply?

penn, uva, nyu, william&mary, boston u, syracuse, udel, uconn, columbia

random list looking back but I wasn't sure if I was honestly going to major in art at that point, and had some high scores going for me. Is your son a definite art major?

williams is a great school by the way, congrats
