art at ucla

can anyone tell me about the quality of the art program at ucla??? how are professors/facilities/etc...? thanks

The acceptance rate is really low... like 4-6%.

All of the professors are very well-known and renowned artists. They are successful, which is useful in the art world.

The facilities are very accessible. They're top grade. You can access the studios, technically, at any time of the day because you are given a combination code for the key lock.

(my roommate is an art major)

thanks... if i didn't apply to the art school directly, to what extent can i still pursue art at the college...I didn't really want to commit to that, but I don't know how exactly that affects me or what I want to do

again, thanks

in the college [of letters and science], you can pursue art history. the art history in the arts school is catered more towards *arts/i students. so questions, essays etc. on exam are more geared towards being applied toward practice as an artist in the arts school

you cannot take the studio classes you need for the art major while youre in the college... well technically you can but art majors have priority over you and it can be an issue to enroll in the classes

it's really hard to transfer from the college to the arts school... heck, it's hard enough just trying to get as a regular admit.

if you really want to do this and if you have your portfolio (5 slides) in hand, it couldnt hurt to try??

there's also art rec classes at wooden, if it's just something you like to DO but maybe not study. like, intro to animation courses, etc.

Psh. Those intro to animation classes totally blow. (mainly because they got canceled BOTH quarters! rawr.) The figure drawing class is supposed to be interesting though.

As for the art program itself, er.

Well, for the class I had, the professor was really interesting. His lectures kind of killed since they were 3 hours long, but it's pretty nice how he incorporates totally random bits of Japanese culture into his lecture. Still learn a lot though. :]

The facilities are super nice but getting into the program is hard. It depends on how many people are graduating and how many people are applying. Last year 14 people applied to transfer into the major and I believe only 4 got in. -wants to transfer into the desma major. ;x-
