We are looking for an excellent art history program in the southeast US, with a women's soccer program. We may consider the eastern or northeastern region, as well.
Suggestions?

My son had the same objective (minus the soccer). He graduated from Williams with a dual degree in Art History / Art Studio. Both areas are highly impressive. The Art History program is one of the best in the country with three world-class museums on or near campus and a reputation for placing curators and directors at top museums. The studio department is small but well funded with excellent facilities and talented professors.

Williams is very selective but they like kids with a mix of academics, arts and sports.

Other schools on my son’s list in a range of selectivity: Wesleyan, Hamilton, Kenyon, Skidmore, Conn College. I would also add Smith, Vassar, Bard and Oberlin. Among the Ivy League Brown and Yale.

Most of the large State Universities have good art history departments; studio is more variable. Look at Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan. Among medium privates JHU and CMU.

In order to narrow in a bit, you might mention the applicant’s grades/scores and financial needs.

She should be sure to submit an arts portfolio with her application, even if she leans more toward history than studio.

I love the art department here at Rhodes and the women’s soccer team is pretty competitive in DIII. Ben Butler is my favorite artist in the department (at least in terms of the art he produces). http://www.benbutlerart.com
