I was wondering if it would be a good idea to send my art portfolio to Tufts as part of my application.

Over the years I have invested a huge amount of time and effort into my art, and I want to get all the credit I can for that, but nowhere I've seen does Tufts mention their policy on Applicants sending in portfolios.

Would sending in my portfolio help me or hurt me?

I'm sending in a portfolio (painting slides) along with a resume of my art activities and a teacher recommendation.

I didn't find any information either, but I doubt they would count it against you if you sent it.

thanks. Thats what i was thinking of sending too.

Anyone else?

I sent in a cd of artwork along with a list of dimensions/material/date completed. I read somewhere on the tufts website we can send in supplemental stuff.

If you are applying to Tufts and would like to submit an art portfolio, then there are a couple helpful things of which you should be aware. The first is that as an admissions reader, I am qualified to do many things, but evaluating artistic merit is (unfortunately) not among them. Know that you are submitting your work to demonstrate a broader quality about yourself, not to demonstrate something about your artistic skill. Pick one or two works that reflect your personality and your ways of thinking and send those in; an entire portfolio (or a bunch of slides) is overkill and can get in the way of noticing the important things you are trying to show in your art. Send us prints that will fit in an 8.5x11 manila envelope and will not require special equipment to see. That way you can be sure that wherever I am, I will be able to view your work.

If you've already sent a portfolio in - don't worry. You're fine, but that (generally) is not as effective as picking one high impact piece.
