Art student + legacy

My daughter might apply to BU but her stats are frankly lousy - around 2.7 gpa, but there is an upward trend (poor sophmore year). Poor math SATs (400’s). Reading SAT in the 600’s. She would want the Fine Arts college for studio art, so she also has to submit a portfolio. I (her mom) graduated from BU.

I know she falls outside the median. Any thoughts on whether the university would consider her?

I think they’ll definitely consider her. Try to raise her scores and/or have her take the ACT to see if she does well on that. If her portfolio is good, that’s definitely helpful. Maybe her common app essay should explain what happened during sophomore year. Good luck!

In art schools, the portfolio would be a major factor in the admission decision. That plus the legacy would help.
