How are my chances?

Hi! Boston University is my first choice for college, and I’m applying as an art major. I hear the CFA is great!

I am a Caucasian female from Massachusetts and I am from a competitive high school in the suburbs

GPA: 4.173 weighted, don’t know what it is unweighted.
SAT: 2090 (640 Critical Reading, 700 Math, 750 Writing) I am taking them again in December
SAT II: 620 Math I, 700 American History

I have taken all Honors and AP’s since freshman year, except when they have not been offered. Last year I took AP English Language and AP American History. This year I am taking AP English Literature, AP French Language, AP Psychology, and AP Art. (I have taken year long art classes since freshman year.)

EC’s: National Art Honors Society since sophomore year, I was vice president last year (there are no officers this year). I am part of National Honors Society this year as well as Excelsior (a student-run art and literature magazine at our school. I have also contributed art to it). I’ve been involved with theater behind the scenes (except last year, I’m continuing this year). I play piano (and compose sometimes) and I have played numerous times at events for the school. I have also taken many art classes at the local museum. My art has been selected for various exhibits.

I have won a postcard contest in my town (:]) and also our school’s Black History Month art competition.

Though I haven’t had a job, I have been volunteering with a foundation involved in raising money towards cancer research in children for three years and have contributed art for the auction 8th, 9th, and 10th grade. My family has personal ties to this foundation and cause.

So what do you guys think? :)

Your academic credentials are good, but realize that for CFA, it's the portfolio (or audition) that drives admission decisions, past a certain level of academic accomplishment.
You will have no trouble meeting CFA's standards; now it's a question of the strength of your work.

thanks! I think I have some strong pieces; however, most of my strong pieces are not so much from observation, they're more surreal... Do they judge pieces more on the creativity or realistic aspect/technicality?

I also have a ton of portraits of people that I am happy with, and they're accurate and technically strong, I just don't want to include too many. Would 3 portraits be too much? They're charcoal.

I can't really help you on that point, since I'm in the music school; maybe you could ask about that in the arts majors forum?

thanks a lot :) I'll try that. and that's great you're a music major! I love playing music, but I'm not at the level that I could study it in school. Do you like the CFA?
