Art Supplement?

Can anyone provide any recommendations on the Art Supplements? In addition to being a strong student, my daughter is a trained singer. She'd like to submit an Art Supplement to distinguish her regular application. We understand she can send a CD or DVD, but how professional do these need to be? Do we need to go to a professional studio? Also, regarding song choice - does anyone have any recommendations?
We'd really appreciate any suggestions, recommendations, or experiences you can share.
Thank you.

Depending on the school you’re looking at.

Let’s start with what you all might suggest for the Common App…
thanks!

I checked out the previous threads - thanks xrCalico23 - but I’m not finding much on the “how” of the submission. Not administratively, but what the submission should look like. Do people go to professional studios to get them done?

VAMom, I’m not sure about the specifics since I never submitted a music supplement myself, but I think you will get much more detailed and useful responses here([Music Major - College Confidential](Music Major - College Confidential Forums)) in the music major forum, where the parents will most likely be much more knowledgeable on the topic. As far as I know, many schools have very specific requirements for music submissions, and some even use their own forms instead of the common app art supplement.

Best of luck to your daughter.

Within the thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/738525-how-strong-music-ec.html</a> are some links in my posts #79 and #154 dealing with sups, and there are a number of links within those threads as well. Also search for posts by my username here in the common app forum using the search this forum/advanced feature. I wrote at least a dozen last cycle, and there’s no need to reinvent the wheel here.

While I am not familiar with the common app, realize that each school will have its own parameters as to what they want or suggest. They may be nebulous, they may be specific.
There are no generalities.

As for the media and recording, these may also vary widely, but will probably be CD or DVD. The possibility will also exist for the potential of an internet posted submission. And for the how to, the best place for the technical aspects will be the music major forum. Options can range from the inexpensive to studio production, depending on the time and effort you wish to put in. I can pull thread links if you wish on the how to and techie aspects. There are reasonably priced devices that will give adequate quality that the pros and music majors use for competition/festival/audition submissions so breaking the bank is not required.

Thank you both very much! I appreciate your guidance.
