Yeah, so I'm about a nudge away from accepting McGill, but I'm having a REALLY hard time deciding which faculty to enter into and I was hoping someone might have some info/tips to help me decide!

So I'm debating between the Faculty of Arts/Sci (Biomed. science?) and Microbiology and Immunology (Faculty of Sci) and absolutely cannot decide!

In both scenarios, I would have to take similar first year courses right?

eeek! hard to decide - any thoughts would be really helpful!!! =)

Arts/Sci! Do you really want to get so specific so soon? Take some time to explore your choices and your interests. Take some arts courses while you're there and learn another language or two! Broaden your horizons. Keep in mind that med schools want people with different perspectives and ways of thinking. They're looking for individuality and for someone who stands out. Besides, microbiology and immunology sound really hard.

well said bittersweet. It was nice to hear somone encouraging keeping an open mind, because I still don't have much of an idea of what I want to study (though i do know i'd love to pick up a "language or two"). I actually started getting intimidated by my peers becoming very specific and almost nit picky about certain faculties of certain schools (ie, is the premed at NYU good? because blah blah blah). I'm even further from knowing what I want to follow as a career

Why, thank you. Maybe we'll have some language classes together. You never know. It's really not a big deal if you don't know what you want to do. It's ok too if you know exactly what you want to do. The only thing is, if you don't know what you want to do make sure you have at least some sort of a general direction. If you do know what you want to do, give yourself a way out as well, just in case. There's all of next year to decide. A girl who graduated from my school last year (with a 45 in IB) went into engineering and then switched to a major in english. Totally didn't see it coming. Another girl who's majoring in chemistry at UofT decided to minor in woman's studies after a course she took in first year. Sometimes you really don't know where your interests are going to lead you. There is still so much out there to discover and understand. Don't feel pressured to figure life out right away.

yah you can minor in a language- everything can be worked around honestly- they only set the rules to keep ppl from constantly asking for exceptions...!

I took IB French all through high school, but at standard level so I won't get any credit for it. Next year I plan to take some more french courses..maybe the decouvrons Montreal en francais like harpgirl recommended so that I will be fluent enough in French to find a job in the city. I think that's the most pressing issue to deal with. I'm sure the competition for jobs on campus is pretty vicious. I'm also interested in other languages..like Italian or Spanish, or perhaps Chinese. I just came back from Montreal this afternoon and I definately need to brush up on my french, especially if I want to watch tv next year.
