Arts Supplement for Stanford

Hi all,

If a student intends to send in an Arts supplement for the application at Stanford, should the instrument be specifically listed in that application? My daughter is very good at an Indian Instrument called "Veena" and whose recital she would like to submit as an Arts supplement. But this instrument is not listed in the application and so she is afraid that her application will not be considered even if she sends it. She even wrote to an email address that was mentioned on the web page there asking about this instrument and has not heard from anyone for the past couple weeks and since Dec 1 is the deadline to apply for Arts supplement, we were wondering what would be the best strategy here -- should she just give up and apply for the regular deadline or go ahead with this supplement even if it is not mentioned in the application?

FYI -- she is not planning on doing a Music major but just wanted to submit the supplement as one of her skills.

Thank you for any tips you can give us to help resolve the issue.

Best regards

I think sending it in wouldn’t harm her application. She can maybe explain about the instrument/ introduce it to the admission people in the arts resume … I think… It’s my first time applying too. That’s just my two cents. But i think if they really are. As good as they say they should be able to appreciate international instruments and welcome the diversity. I say send it in!

OP, you need to check with the music department. They state on the site that explicit permission from the Department of Music is required for any instruments not on their list.

I submitted a music supplement in the EA round if you have any further questions about arts supplements in general.
