As a Biology Major, should I add an Arts Supplement?

I don't know if it would make me appear more favorable, but I have dedicated a lot of time to Graphic Design and want to know if, even though I'm applying for Biology, adding an arts supplement would benefit me at all and make me seem well rounded?

If you add it, I would say that you should do it because you want to show off your art, and not just to show how “well-rounded” you are.

I personally would add it, though!

Oh of course. So it wouldn’t be a detriment that works against me applying as a Biology major?

No, it would not be a detriment at all. They don’t want biology majors who are robots and only like biology. As a former bio major who is now on faculty at a med school, I can tell you that most colleges and universities are far more impressed with a student who is a Renaissance man/woman, excelling in many fields, including the arts, music, and the humanities, as well as science. Are you sure you even have to “apply as a biology major” to your school of choice? Many do not require a student to declare a major formally until the end of sophomore year, because they KNOW that many students will change their mind once they get exposed to many different fields in college. The school may ask you to put the major you are interested in and/or career interest on the app (just like the Common App asks), but this is your tentative interest right now, not formally declaring a major.

If anything, as a college adcom i’d be more interested - how cool is it that someone has a strong interest in sciences, but is artsy at the same time? In reality, I’m but a high school student, but I’ve always been amazed by people who excel in every area of school. They’re not perfect and don’t strive for perfection, but they do well at everything and they genuinely enjoy it. Go for it, and good luck!

OK, but what if I’m more of a graphic designer. So most of the stuff I’ve worked on has some licensed art on it. For example :http://vgboxart.com/boxes/MISC/43021-the-kingdom-hearts-collection-full.png

Most of my time has gone to redesigning packaging that implements licensed art but entirely new. Should I include these in the video/showcase, especially since I’ve gotten recognition for some of my redesigned box art?

Bump! Sorry guys, I just want to know whether or not I should add some of my packaging ideas.

I’m also applying as a bio major, and I’m not doing the common app arts supplement, but I am submitting arts supplements to Harvard, Columbia, and Brown. I figure it can’t hurt shrug If you really think you’ve got something, then go for it! Your stuff looks really cool, and like aomame, if I were an adcom, I’d be intrigued.
