I'm mostly focusing on digital and newer-style video, and I'm considering taking an acting course (since I'll no doubt be starring in some of my films.)

Anyway, I've read a lot about how theatre actors tend to be overdramatic on film because of the differences in the medium.

Two questions:
1) Do you think a theatre acting course would be useful for film acting?
2) Do you think a theatre acting course would be useful for becoming more outgoing?

I think it would absolutely be useful for both. Though film acting is more subtle than theater, many actors do both and you can still use the skills you learn from the theater class on film. And if you really put in the effort in the class, theater is a great way to raise confidence to help you be more outgoing.

I think it’s a great idea for aspiring directors to pick up some acting basics.

I’ve heard it is really good to do this because you get to learn both sides of the picture. I think it would be way easier to direct actors after learning more about the acting process and the steps actors go through to create their characters.
