well DUH you can hang out with your friends in the dorms, play videogames, movies etc.

But what is there to actually DO in Westwood/UCLA? Nothing much.

Well we're not exactly in: irvine, davis, santa barbara, merced, riverside. or 90% of america, where there's jack crap to do except go to the mall, get drunk, or twiddle your thumbs.

But on the other hand I do understand most of you who say there's nothing to do. without a car and a sense of adventure you're isolated.

however one myth is you need money to survive in LA, you dont really, there are plenty of cheap ways to get around and have fun

Are you a shut-in? Go to parties, go into westwood and go to movies, go out ot eat in westwood, hooka?? There's tons of stuff to do in westwood/ucla outside of the dorms, you just have to be somewhat social.

I'm definitely going to make sure I have fun on the weekends...my high school social life has been awful (as in almost non-existent) so that's for sure going to change when I get to UCLA!

Probably 90% of your social life will be centered around hanging out in the dorms or apartments (video games or whatever), partying in the apartments or frats, or dinner/movie in Westwood.

But don't forget you have some of the best hiking in the US, clubs in (West) Hollywood and Santa Monica, incredibly cheap and good ethnic cuisine, endless museums and free cultural sites, the beach, tons of cheap or free concerts, exhibitions/readings, the list goes on.

Clubs eh...reminds me of all the 18+ stuff I won't be able to do until my birthday in November.

Sucks being 17 entering college....damn enrolling into kindergarten early :-/ its catching up to me!

haha well at least you only have to wait 2 months, unlike some on this board ;)

you can make new friends first quarter who will then take you clubbing when you turn 18. if you're a girl (somehow i don't think so... but just throwing it out there), i suggest tigerheat ;)

i can't believe i just used ;) twice in one post. man i really need to get a life.

the good news is that getting a life and finding stuff to do is easy in westwood.

the bad news is i'm 900 miles away, in oregon...

Take meeeee, liyanaaaa!!!

heh i don't like spending money too much... prob cause i'm kinda broke and have never had a job (tho i kinda got one next quarter)
hanging out is always fun ;]
but yeah there's plenty of fun down the street ;]

Weird question from a Mom I know. Please do not be offended by this: are there a lot of "hot, white, blond chicks" as my son would say, at UCLA? This happens to be his preference, and for the last 6 years I have heard "I can't wait to get out of this area (Calif. Central Valley) and into college to meet some hot girls". This may sound shallow, but he has quite a few great schools to choose from (some full rides) and I truly believe the social life for 4 or more years is just as important as the degree.

Ugh. They're everywhere. ):< EVERY FREAKING WHERE.

He will find them, provided he has the personality and looks to match. Just kidding. About the looks part, I mean. :)

There are A LOT!

And yes they do all look that way. . .

They all do not act that way all the time though.

Some of them are very nice and studious people. Some just know how to have fun and do well in school at the same time. Smart balance if you ask me! It's something I'm trying to do!

mnucla: thank you for that note. You read my mind. As my sons shirt says "I'm allergic to STUPID".

^ and yes, he does have the looks and personality! :)

dude, i know you can go to parties, get trashed, hook up, etc. But you aren't really DOING anything. If you had a car you could DO a lot more. I guess our definition of "DOING" is different.

regardless, just because there isn't much to do, doesn't mean you won't have fun.

karagon, there's a fair amount but if his number one goal is "hot blond chicks" he'll be MUCH better off at USC or pepperdine. LA is always a magnet for "hot blond chicks" to come seeking glory and meeting reality :)
