Ok, fine, in other words, is there really a difference between a 4.3 and a 4.5? (for the weighting-- A and A+)?

Ahhh, now that is a different question :)

It matters only if everyone in your class is getting A+ and you are the few ones that get A- or A.

abt the ranking..............I guess it doesn't matter THAT much, if u r from one of the best high school in the nation! (at that time, it rather comes down to how much effort u put and whether u r hard working enough)
anyway, I just believe that rank doesn't matter ALL THE TIME!

hahaha wow an A- isn't bad. chill, peeps :-D

but then there's the different of getting all A+'s in honors classes then have an A- in an elective, which then in turn brought your freshman year down, (ranking honor roll) but then most people who probably start smacking me with those hard french bread, or simply baseball bats

When school don't officially rank, colleges estimate your rank. Thry know where you stand. Rank is what matters for everyone at top colleges.

see i was wondering the same thing. at my school, A- is 3.9, A is 4.2 and A+ is 4.5, so even though it's probably true that they're all A's to adcoms, it makes a big difference on gpa here. like, i'm 10th in the class and i have about a 4.0ish uw and 4.5 weighted, the val has like a 4.42 uw and a 4.87w. thats comforting that my A-'s and A's still look good lol.

most schools just say that A+'s are As anyways.

yeah, Greendayfan, that's what I meant. Does anybody know what impact this makes?

It is true that if the school don't rank then Admission officer try guesing your standing by the school profile.
Like my child school average hover between 3.78 W as it doesn't give unweighted average.
So the ad com will second guess your standing comparing you to other student applying from the same school and your GPA.

I hate everyone.

.................?

At my school, A+ and A- are same thing. All regular classes weighted as 4, honors/ap as 5.

the problem is at that my school about 40% of the kids get grades in the A range (meaning from A to A+).

yeah at my school, A+ is 4.33, A is 4.0 and A- is 3.77. This makes a difference when it comes to gpas and class rank. I've heard that colleges recalculate GPAs though, using the standard all As=4.0

and as for my school, AP courses are counted w/ weight of 2, i.e. u get a 6.0 if u make an A! honors=5 and reg. 4.

So letmme get this straight.
If A is from 86 without any +/-, honours, APs in our school, getting 98 and getting 86 is not different at all even though the numerical score shows up in our transcripts?

well at my school the lowest A- is a 90.
and 86? luckyyyyy!

wow... no, but i think that if they show the numerical score.... they'd count A as from 90-100, right?
