Asia - A bit of help (Econ)

Hey guys!

I'm an Indian student living in Mumbai, and just finished my grade twelve ISC. I did pretty well I think:

English - 92/100
Economics - 90/100
Commerce - 94/100
Accounts - 94/100
Maths - 95/100

I want to study economics at an undergraduate level, and already got accepted by the University of Hong Kong into their Economics and Finance programme, and I also made their provisional requirement (93%). Thing is, I have also applied to the three universities in Singapore (NUS, NTU and SMU).

I gave my SAT's on the 3rd of May, and the results should be out later this week. I'm anticipating anywhere between a 2050 and a 2100, could be more not sure. Taking everything into consideration, I'm wondering whether or not Hong Kong should be my university of preference. Singapore is a far more familiar city to me, having been there a few times already. I haven't been to Hong Kong before, and the thought of going to a new city, where I have no family or friends (I'm the only student from my school that applied and got into HKU and is considering it, whereas there are a few friends of mine who are keen on going to Singapore).

I understand that my chances at NUS and NTU are slim at best, but should I manage a 2050 or higher score on the SAT, SMU shouldn't be too difficult.

Taking everything into consideration (place, people, job opportunities, campus and so on), what do you think is the better option for me? I'm not going to lie; the thought of having to make friends from scratch in a city I don't know with no family around to support me is scary.

Thanks,
Addy

There are a lot of Indian in Hong Kong, although it may be the same in Singapore. However, you may feel more comfortable in Singapore as English is the official and common language there. Even on Campus at HKU that everybody can speak English, you will find most of the students still speak Cantonese outside of the class. On the other hand, it may give you a better international experience in HK. As for the cities, there are pros and cons for both. Singapore has more stringent rules and the city is cleaner. HK is more convenient in transportation but it is crowded almost everywhere. I am sure you can find other international students from Indian in either place, perhaps more in Singapore.
