Asian freshman in Greek recruitment?

I don't mean to offend in asking this question, it's genuine curiosity. I'm an Asian American girl heading off to U of I as a freshmen in the fall of 2012, and I'd really like to go through Greek recruitment. Even though recruitment is supposed to be "non-discriminatory" to race/nationality etc, but according to the photographs I've seen and the things I've heard, it's really hard to tell it that's actually the case.
Is it worth me going through recruitment not knowing if my race will or will not effect the outcome? Does anyone have any experience as an Asian going Greek/know anyone Asian that has gone Greek?
Also I'm not looking to join Asian-Interest or Minority Sororities.

I know plenty of Asians in sororities here on the west coast, but i suppose we are a lot more liberal than most parts of the country. Even so, the majority of sororities here are still predominantly white.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions and say that this is a racial issue, because I would imagine that if you’re a first-generation Asian American you are likely to have values that don’t fit with the majority of sororities’. Less Asians rush, and thus less Asians end up in sororities.

That said, there are very diverse sororities here. I’m Asian, but my girlfriend is white and in SK at UC Berkeley. Her sorority is one of the most diverse, yet still well loved by the frats there.

Ultimately, I think racism is pretty much dead in most parts of the country. If you’re outgoing and into greek life, i’m sure you’ll find a place somewhere. If anything, I’d imagine sororities would be all over you to add “diversity” to their sisterhood. Even at stereotypically “white” sororities like KKG here, 10-20% are Asians.

And if it doesn’t work out, well, you can always move to the west coast?..

no one is really going to care. i personally know a good amount asians in greek organizations (i’m asian myself in a non-asian fraternity). asians in college are usually the first generation asian-americans who don’t really know what greek life is, and thus are less likely to rush. caucasians, from my experience, usually have other family members in sororities and thus they get all excited for joining their own. then again, consider the fact that the campus is mostly white…and proportionally there’s gonna be fewer asians in sororities.
