<p>I wish you had named this thread "My Mom" or "Overbearing Parents" or "Obsessive Parents." Maybe it's just me, but it makes me uncomfortable when people stereotype all Asian moms to be a certain way. There are "annoying" moms like yours in many other races, especially immigrant families.</p>
<p>^ I've noticed most Asians like to emphasize the fact that they're Asian, so "Asian Moms" is more fashionable, rather than just "Obsessive Moms", which doesn't feel nearly as "special" and exclusive.</p>
<p>Anyways, my mom used to care about me overachieving in school, but then came along my little brother, who was getting D's and F's. So she's pretty much trusted me to take care of myself as far as academics is concerned.</p>
<p>Also, we're not exactly rich, so going to a private school like Harvard or Stanford is absolutely out of the question. She'd actually rather me go to a local no-name college, just to save money, rather than any expensive prestigious universities. Of course, saving money is a stereotypically Asian-mom thing to do, right..??</p>
<p>Perhaps the worst part is that she doesn't give me those red envelopes for New Years. What's the point of having an Asian mom if ya don't get da new yearz cash???</p>

<p>^^^^^same here. My parents used to be concerned about me getting B's. My brother came along and he started to get C's. So I'm kinda on my own.</p>
<p>Yeah, one of my sister's friend's goes to Harvard. Her parents have been PhD students for a while I think, so they don't have a ton of money. She pays almost nothing to go to Harvard. Not even $2000 a year. Actually, there's a middle class family who lives here and both of their daughters go to Harvard, and they got some money for both of their children (more for their daughter who got in right away and wasn't waitlisted). They were paying for Stanford and Harvard then and now they're paying for two girls at Harvard, so even if you aren't the typically Economically disadvantaged sort, Harvard is generous. Northwestern on the other hand sucks you dry.</p>
