Evil moms.

I just lost a piano competition and my mom is criticizing the hell out of me. What the...

wow. I feel sorry for you

lollllllllllllllllllll

That's crazy, you should go on strike and refuse to play piano until she lets off :)

haha fizix

no worries...was the competition reallly hard?? just try harder next time and go "BOOM..i win..take that"..lol

(Formerly upper-middle class (or aspiring) socialite) Chinese mothers...

Say "shut the **** up ***** go **** off and get away from me *******"

nah jking.

Should I thank God that my dad criticizes me, not my mother? hmm..

Tell her that you will do better next time. Maybe she will stop.

watch Akeelah and the Bee with her? even if it is overly idealistic?

im guessing your asian? and your asian parents yell at you for a B+ in English?

join the club :D

I'm really glad I don't have Asian parents haha.

My parents could care less...as long as I don't make any C's.

My friend's mom criticizes her for gaining weight (which even if it is true, she's still a twig) and then criticizes her for not finishing her meals. It's pretty ridiculous... and yes, they are asian.

I have to say that I am totally impressed by high school students who go out and compete--It takes tremendous personal strength and shear guts to do what you do! Win or lose, your gain is the experience which has huge value. I say kudos to you and may you continue to compete for yourself and enjoy the music you make! I'm sorry if those around you see it differently--they are missing out on the chance to celebrate your talent and courage.

Asian mothers are amazingly adept at criticism. It's as if they're encrypted into their genes. They know exactly where to strike to make you a sobbing mess and how to drive you nuts.

My Asian mother doesn't give a <expletive>.
My Asian father...is a different story.</expletive>

Haha. I'm Asian (well, Indian. Does that count?). But my parents don't know anything about music, so they can't really criticize me in music stuff.

I used to play violin, but after I had enough and quit in 8th grade, my parents got really angry. Everytime they hear classical or baroque music, they start yelling at me.

I think the obsessions with soprano strings and piano are strictly East Asian immigrant problems.

Asian here too and my parents are exactly like that. My father always called me fat and then scolded me for not finishing my dinner. My mother, however, obviously had more training. She always appealed to guilt after critiscizing me. When I told them I was not going to play the violin in High School, they pretty much bit my head off.

Ironically they didn't scold me for my first B... thought it was in Driver's Ed.

Doesn't it lower your motivation at all?
