me: "Hey look I got a 2300 on my sat!!" reply: "nice job how much is it out of?"

me: "i'm thinking about applying to harvard or brown..."
mom: "no way, that's too far. you have to apply to new york state school"
me: ".. i'm also applying to stanford .. "
mom: "where is that??"
me: :-(

Haha, I'm glad my parents (non Asian) are so laid back.

Me: I'm going to take my first AP Class... (explains the idea).
Parents: Don't you that's too complicated?

Me: I'm going to start volunteering at the elementary school again.
Parents: I think you do way to much. Why don't you just relax?

Me: I want to go to Boston College. I really love that school.
Parents: But you already got into (Stage Flagship). Why would you want to go anywhere else? How much is the deposit, I'll send it in.

They mean well, but they think its odd when I try to much and wouldn't be the least upset if I got a few Cs, or didn't go to an Ivy. I love the lack of pressure.

Redneck Dad; What jew mean yew wanna gota Emory? They ain't got no football team. Git your sorry ass in the gym and pump some iron. Bama don't recruit no weak white boys.
Them SATs is good. If Bama won't have yew maybe Duke or Wake'll give yew a shot.
Notre Dame iz fulla catholicks but they got good football.

Every ethnic group has its own burdens to bear. Parental expectations differ but are usually high for young people fortunate enough to have parents who care about them and their future.

Bama wouldn't have me (too small). I had to play at an Ivy.

To all people who say other ethnicities have their own burdens from parents...

True but, nobody's ever killed themselves from lack of pressure. Just to put that out there. I know a few people who are Asians and killed themselves primarily because the pressure was too much, whilst out of all the other suicides form other ethnicities, it's like drugs, alcohol, car crashes... So yeah, I think we with our Asian parents are some sort of a special case.

Situation: I'm thinking about taking a course at the local college through Dual Enrollment.
Me: Hey dad, I'm thinking of taking "xyz" at the local college.
Dad: Is that related to your major?
Me: Not really, but it sounds interesting.
Dad: Why would you take it then? You're not getting ahead in your career by taking it.

Situation: Picking classes for the upcoming year.
Me: I'm gonna take Anatomy and Physiology.
Dad: Do they offer it in AP?
Me: No...
Dad: Look for something else that's AP, then.

Yeah, my aunt like wants me to take a SAT class this summer(I'm currently a junior). She doesn't grasp the fact that my SAT is 1500 and my ACT is 26 (about 1820), which is 300 points higher.

so yeah, my dad is a hardcore workaholic. It's crazy, but after 20 years of hard work, he went from a small liquor store to 15 million $ in assets and junk.

You guys are funny, but I think I'm lucky because my parents aren't like the Asian stereotype. It could be because they hated school when they were teens. They always tell me to just do my best even though I know they really want me to get A's and get into Stanford and stuff like that.

I'm Korean, and I don't have an insanely crazy strict mom. Neither of us believe college prestige is crucial to success. That said, my mom does expect responsibility and hard-work from me for anything I do.

LMAO...These posts are so hilarous..
haha typical asian parents...
My mom on the other hand, is not like that at all. She understands when I fail a class
or do horrible on a test. She's not like those 'typical asian parents'

lol..but my dad always said that I have to get all A's and blah, blah..
but he doesn't really care. One time he told me that he got a 98% on a math test
and got so ****ed at himself..he also said that getting a B is really BAD...
Gosh! what is wrong with these asian parents? They all think there perfect and everything when really there aren't. -_-
It's annoying...lol

Me:"Dad, I did a bit low on SAT"
Him: "What?!!?! You didnt get a good score? You fale! u no go to Yellllll"
Me: "I don't really want to, I'm happy with a UC"
Him: "Oh U Cee LA A?"
Me: Yeah, or UCI
Him: "UCI NO GOOD FOR SCHOOL, NOT RECOGNIZED! U GO TO YELLL"
Me: "Um, ok?"

then he goes on blab about how great and amazing Yale is but I don't really wanna go there.

HE also does the "That school no good, no famous"

thing

ugh, I understand Asian dads

Thank god My mom ain't asian though! hahahaha (proud to be part Asian)
