Asian people and Music instruments

You know how Asians always play Orchestra like instruments (mostly Violin)? And you know how colleges see that as a norm and dont consider that as much? Well... It's not normal for an asian to play guitar. Would they look at that differently than an asian playing a violin?

LOL your funny. :)

thank you... any suggestions?

lol, are you going to take up guitar?

a lot of asians play guitar..
atleast in CA (where i live.. where everyone is asian)

what would be rare would be.. Trumpet.. Percussion and perhaps Bass?

just for the note, i play violin.. ahahha

i play trumpet. am i a rare one? lol

i used to play trumpet.

Look at it this way, almost 1/4 of the people on the planet are asian, there are ought to be tons of asians playing any instrument

I think choir would look different.

How about drums :)

Isn't it sad that even though you've spent a huge chunk of your life devoted to this instrument, it doesn't mean quite as much because it's violin? sigh I'm not asian, but still...

Anyways, good trombones and tubas always get pulled into colleges/get huge merit aid.

I'm guess I'm just saying this because I'm jealous, but it seems like all Asians play some type of instrument. They play either the piano, violin or both. And they all also have some type of award from it. It's just kind of annoying to see them all doing like the same thing. Sorry if this offends anyone.

how about the cowbell

i'm sure if you play violin and you're devoted to it you'll be fine

what about piano? lol

I'm Asian and I don't play an instrument.

Wait...actually I play piano, but I'm sooo bad at it. I've played since I was five and I'm still stuck at level 3. XD

I'm also not the typical smart Asian! =^.^=

I'm asian. Therefore, I perform in Carnegie Hall on the piano while studying for SATs and speaking fluent chinese and at the same time tuning my violin.

With chopsticks.

Hahahahahahaha

that was funny

it all depends on how good you are at it. if you're an asian, but the first chair in the national orchestra, then you're unique. if you're asian, but the 22nd chair in the school orchestra, not so special--even if you're not asian.

regardless if you're asian or not, there's plenty of guitar players. there's nothing really special about it in terms of college admissions unless you're really good or you used your skills for the betterment of society like playing in a nursing home.

heh. i've played trumpet (school band), guitar (just for fun), and piano (lessons for 8 years). my advice as far as music goes - don't take it too seriously or consider it as merely a ploy for helping your app, because music really becomes a drag when you're not enjoying it.
