I am a 2nd generation Korean-American, and I live on the West Coast. I've read a lot of stuff about how Asians applicants don't have as great of a chance to get into their desired colleges in comparison to other applicants of different races. Do you think that my chances for admission will drop significantly because of my heritage, especially if I write an essay about being Korean-American?

Well, I’m in the same boat. I’m applying to Wellesley this year and I’m also Asian-American. I know that Wellesley has a huge population of Asian, but I really don’t think being asian will get you rejected from the school. If you have strong enough academics and extra-curricular, I think Wellesley will let you in. Of course, I’m going through the same thing so this is just my opinion. Good luck with the application process! Are you applying ED?

ah, i’m glad there’s someone who can relate XD yeah, i guess so, i guess i shouldn’t be worried too much about it,…i will just have to try my best! (:
good luck to you too! yes, i’m applying ED! how about you?

I know what you mean. Applying to colleges is soooo nerve wrecking. It’s like, I try not to worry about it too much, but I still do because it’s easier said than done. Haha…I can’t wait till this application process is over :)

Yes I’m applying ED. Wellesley is absolutely my first choice. Hopefully both of us will get the big fat envelope in December :)

Wellesley has one of the highest, if not the highest, percentage of Asian/ Asian American students in a liberal arts college, so you all have a good chance despite the numbers! Just take care in doing your applications and write some thoughtful essays; you can’t change anything else now… Good luck everyone.

Wellesley wants minorities in order to get rid of the bad finishing school taste. You have wonderful chances of getting in, as long as you demonstrate the qualities needed in a Wellesley student.
