Asians cannot succeed in the business world?

ihatecali, please just shut up becuase you really dont know what your talking about

TELL ME THIS IS NOT HOSTILE. Its fine if someone "holds" something against me, but he/she has NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to tell me to "shut up" in a hostile manner.

you say enough stupid stuff that it is warranted.

please, "NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER", you should look into taking things less seriously.

Well I'd rather not be told to "shut up" in a confrontational, uncalled for manner on an internet forum by someone who I don't know. I don't even let my MOM tell me to shut up.

I'm surprised that the glass ceiling has never appeared in this discussion. Anyone ever consider that variables other than aggressiveness and tenacity can be a reason as to why there are so few Asians in high level management?

The glass ceiling, eh? Not surprising that someone with the name "RATM" would bring that up. :p

I thought about bringing it up, but I don't see a lot of evidence that the glass ceiling is really holding Asians back a whole lot.

I really don't think there's a glass ceiling. The glass ceiling probably applies a little more to women than to Asians. There aren't too many women in upper management. Of course, it's not holding women back as much as it did in the 50's, but it still is kind of hindering. Unfortunately.

Eventually, I hope there will come a time when a name on a resume won't be considered in hiring decisions. But then, I'm an idealistic visionary.

it will soon be a reality, the demographics of the US and the world are quickly changing

A glass ceiling may likely exist in government, but is self-destructive in business.

Talent appears, regardless of race, and if a person is talented enough to warrant advancement, but does not, the person will leave and find that advancement with another company that will allow him/her to advance.

Businesses do not succeed or even compete very well when they drive away premier talent.
Having no glass ceiling is partly enlightened self-interest and partly Darwinism at work between companies.

women aren't in upper management positions because they're usually unwilling to give more devotion to their job than their family. There was a study carried out where a sociologist interviewed different groups of women who held high financial executive positions & law firm positions. For the most part these women were marked with large divorce rates and openly said that they'd be hesitant to hire women, especially those interested in having children. One woman said that if they could get along with without an employee for 3 months (maternity leave) then maybe they don't need them at all.

I think in business, talent outweighs race. If you can somehow boost your firm's profits by 20% annually, go WILL move up the ladder regardless of race. This is evident by the fact that Merril Lynch's CEO, Stan O'neal, who grew up from a typical southern African American household, became one of the most succesful CEO on Wall Street because he has the right skills and talents.

Usually the women who hold high positions are freaks of nature. They are the outliers among the population. As you said, they have high divorce rates and many of them are "single". So therefore, they reproduce less and their innate influences will not be spread through the gene pool.

The best women cannot outgun the best men. They aren't designed too. In my PharmD program (the best at a state school), I haven't seen any woman that can tolerate the mental and physical stress that I can. If they can't handle that, they're not going to be at the top.

Wow, Polo...

I'm not touching that one with a ten-foot-pole. Way to open Pandora's box, man. :p

The best men > the best women.

Women = >8 .... that means cut.

dumbest thread ever

just a bunch of idiots trying to justify racial generalizations

like seriously... just stop talking...

lol yea, this is retarded, some of you have spoken on the borderline of racism, and for you guys that go to the top schools how many asian (indians as well) do you see excelling, is this even a serious question.

i think its intent was serious....but the content is really far from it...i personally think personalities are more indicative than culture..

I am from Turkey. Not exactly asia, but we are still considered Eurasian. let me give you a perspective which I have been dealing with for the last two years. Should I go the medicine route or business. I am the type of person that has the confidence and brains to achieve greatness and I don't really see myself settling for anything less, but my mom tries to do anything she can to send me off to get that MD. At that point all you have is yourself, if you have enough BALLS, you will go through with your plan regardless of your race or background. Also, my parents are lower middle class, figure from here. I made my decision and I should probably change my username. If you have it in you, it will show. No one here is YODA and can't point at someone and say "the force is strong in that one." It just comes from within. The greatest minds in the world have been known to pursue business because of their ability to calculate risk. Once you calculate it and have a business plan, the last thing that should come to your mind is pleasing your parents. **** them , just be successful in anything that you do, and if they really love you then they will support you. Its not like your telling them that because your asian and you don't want to do engineering and medicine that your going to become a breakdancer or something. You will have prestiege and power beyond your wildest dreams in this country. Its just a matter if time.

****I also took this post really seriously because it has actually personally affected me. Take notice and reply.
