Asians?

So I applied to Notre Dame because of the prestige of the undergraduate business school and the friendly community.

However, I just heard a few days ago that asians are actually an URM, which would actually benefit my decision. I had also just read about the diversity visit (which I have not been emailed about, so I'm assuming that I've been rejected)

My grades, however, are definately not top tier but I do have very interesting extracurriculars relating to a business aspect.

Could you guys please chance me (adding in the fact that apparently I am a "URM")?

Academics:
GPA - 4.0889/4 (FAIL), 6 AP classes (Gov, Eco, Calc, Stats, Us History, Envi Science) most rigorous course schedule available (All Pre-AP since 6th grade and HS ranked in top 6% of nation)

Class rank ~130/700 (Fail). This ****ed me off because if I moved 2 miles down the road, the district would zone me into another HS where my GPA would qualify for top 4%. Wow.

SAT - 2010 (FAIL)

ACT - 31 (FAIL)

SAT II - Math II 640 (Fail) US History 680 (Fail)

Extracurriculars:
1) Currently own my own company - Kizag Developments, operating as a sole proprietorship and manage 7 workers from all backgrounds.

2) Founded Inventors and Business Club

3) President and Manage another "company" (not legally established) under Junior Achievement

4) Self Employed #1 - Sold candy throughout day for a 46% profit margin ($300-400 per month PROFIT)

5) Self Employed #2 - Begun business as social media consultant (Taught older generations how to use facebook/twitter, earned $20-50 per client, each client took about 25-45 minutes).

6) Self Employed #3 - Imported gel cell phone cases and screen protectors from china and resold for 200-400% markup on amazon ebay (Depending on shipment, anywhere from $80-400 per week)

7) Directed marketing for Future Business Leaders of America

8) NHS, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honors club), Good volunteer hours, JV swimming

Good teacher recs from my business teacher and others, all mentioning my entrepreneurial mindset and passion and initiative

Well written essay (I hope, I took a HUGE risk! :()

I know my strong suit for business is that I am not afraid to die on a treadmill. There may be people smarter than me, more talented than me, probably MUCH better looking that me, but if we get on that treadmill together, there are 2 things that will happen. He will either get off first, of I am going to die. Period. No questions asked.

Just like when Fed-Ex begun as a college essay where Frederick's (Founder) college professor gave him a C- because it was "not feasible and took too much startup capital" or when Colonel Sanders from KFC took his last $100 from his SOCIAL SECURITY check and gambled it all on fried chicken, I think that the tenacity to get up on that 8th, 9th, and 10th try will hopefully allow me to succeed. I hope colleges can see that without an interview lol xD. I also hope that the ad-coms at ND have a sense of humor :)

But yeah, I am not confident at ALL for Notre Dame. My academics fail hard-core compared to all the other students.

What do you guys think?

I think your scores are at the bottom of the range, but still in- GPA/class rank will hurt some, however.

But those business adventures are incredibly unique and show a lot of initiative; and as an applicant to the business school that should help tremendously. Hopefully you described in your app somewhere how moving 2 miles to a different HS would change your class rank/how competitive your school is.

Overall I think you have a pretty good chance. Don’t sweat the next week/week and a half. Go make some more money and be satisfied that it’s out of your hands at this point.

Also, the azn factor is definitely a plus. I would be surprised if you were rejected. Good luck and God bless

OP, you are brilliant. In a fascinating way, of course.

URMs??? But then wouldn’t Asians have been notified already?

Thanks, I guess all there is to do is really to wait. I actually considered moving at the end of my junior year so that I would graduate from that different High School and have a MUCH MUCH higher class rank. I really hope my extracurriculars and recs/essay could tip the factor. I just wish ND had a interview process, that is normally my strongest part of any kind of application.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it :).

Also, any accepted asians care to input their experiences?

Thanks!!!

I applied EA and I was accepted. I am Asian. My SAT’s better but your ACT is better so you should be fine. Class rank is higher though (top 3% when I applied). I think if your essays and your activities can push you over the edge like they did for me (I had extra curriculars that were geared toward a specific interest like you do). Good luck! I seriously wasn’t expecting an acceptance from Notre Dame but I got it, and hopefully you will too!

Yeah, class rank is a big problem for me :(. Maybe if I get accepted to, we can be roomies? :)

so if a minority and not invited to the diversity weekend does that mean that i should expect a rejection?

@annekk Absolutely not. Asians are best represented URM at ND (if that makes sense) so not all of the accepted Asians are invited. One of my good friends who is asian did not get invited last year and is currently a freshman at ND.

Not sure how reliable the source is lol.

Also, the school is 74% Catholic (not that religion matters to me anyways)

The name collegeprℴwler.com is blocked on this website, as is prℴwler. Is that the website you tried linking to?

Yup sorry just noticed that XD

this kind of gives me some hope

What does URM stand for?

URM stands for under represented minority. Aka the ethnic groups that are least populated at a school.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using CC App

Are Asian Indians considered URM’s at Notre Dame?

I would guess so, I think pacific islanders might have more of a boost though. Not entirely sure at all.

That is very low lol. I feel special now. haha XD
