Asing a Sophomore Year Teacher For a College Recommendation

Hi! A few months ago I remember reading a forum saying that colleges prefer letters of recommendations from junior and senior year teachers. Due to the pandemic, my school district closed in march and has declared virtual-learning for this upcoming fall semester, so I can’t really get to know my senior year teachers enough for them to write me a strong rec. I didn’t really know my junior year English teacher that well, however I was wondering whether it would be good to submit a letter of recommendation from a sophomore English teacher. I feel like this teacher knew me very well and truly understood my learning process to write me a very strong rec, but would it be at my disadvantage to ask a teacher from sophomore year instead of one from junior/senior year considering the effects of this pandemic? please let me know.

Yes, the traditional recommendation is to get recommendations from Junior year teachers.

But this kind of goes out the window with the current pandemic situation, for the reasons you note.

I think a Sophomore year teacher would be fine for students in the 2020-2021 application cycle.

Unless a college specifically asks for a junior/senior year teacher LOR that sounds fine to me…especially given the current covid situation.
