Ask a BU Freshman

It means they haven’t made a decision yet on the teacher.

just wondering, what’s the most amount of majors someone has had that you know of?

the website says someone’s a triple major. that seems like a lot of work.

I knew someone who did 3 majors. he took a lot of classes in the summer and overloaded. I personally think it’s kinda dumb…there’s really no point to having that many majors and your gpa will probably suffer. double major is just fine.

i noticed this was mentioned in the thread but wasn’t answered, i think:
how is the sailing team?

and also:
how’s the financial aid for transfers?

Has anyone here done pre-med with a double major?

also, has anyone participated an engineering senior project?

whats the campus like? does it look as beautiful as it does on the internet?

i’m a rising senior. what are my chances at BU in your opinion? (i’ll be doing a biology major w/ a concentration in neuroscience. i want to do pre-med too)

I don’t know if this question has been asked or not, but is there anyway to buy Macs with the student discount without buying it online? My parents are quite paranoid about their credit card info being stolen since it had happened before.

call the Apple store. you should be able to get their number online. they would apply the student discount when you say that you are an undergrad or a student. Also, they take the credit card info over the phone so it’s pretty private.

I’m a possible future BU student as well! Just tossing out my greetings to everyone :)

I wonder if being a moderate/liberal-leaning from the deep South will help my chances? Unique, right ;)

Deep south? Where are you from? I’m from Texas. There are quite a few kids from Texas at BU actually.

east Texas (technically the location is in the deep south bubble, even if the state isn’t, ya know?). Whoa really? That’s awesome.

Is anyone active in the greek system? I am wondering how popular the sororities are and how competitive rush is.

I’m from Dallas. But yeah, I know one kid that graduated with me in high school and goes to BU with me. They get quite a few applicants from Texas every year. I don’t think it counts as anything special. Only if you’re a minority or something.

Hey, i received a scholarship that stated that i would have to keep up at 3.2 average gpa in order to keep the scholarship. How hard is this going to be. Ill be taking Calc 122, Chem 101, Wr100, and japanese…

Thanks alot!

ah Dallas

I didn’t think so, because I’d heard they got a lot from Texas, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask :)

Well Pinstripped, you need to have a yearly GPA of 3.2 for the scholarship you are talking about. And it all depends on your study habits and how well you perform.

If you learn languages easily, and are willing to put in Time… well then Japanese should be fun. I recently took it this summer, and it literally took up all my time. (If you aren’t asian it’ll be weird at first because the grammar is different, however you will pick it up quickly if you put time into it. (Speaking it is easy, writing it is another story lol.)

WR 100 doesn’t take up too much time, however if you delay the assignments and all the edits… note I say SHOULD DO… you will do poorly, however if you do the writing over the semester and constantly edit it, you should get an A. Unless you get a ****** of a professor… which does happen. (My friend is an AMAZING writer, won many awards back in high school for her writing. However the professor didn’t like her writing style what so ever and she constantly recieved B’s. It ended up being that no one in the class got higher than a B… so yah be wary.)

Chem 101 is easy depending on your mindset. If you have a knack for math and computations you should do fine. However don’t think you just go to the class and pass easily without any outside work. Since the class does not give partial credit on tests, you either end up getting the question right or wrong. (Though I did not take CH 101 took CH 109/110 I have experience from my friends, that managed to easily get an A and a few struggled to get a B+. Just go to discussion do the problems and you should be fine lol.)

Calc 122 is cake… that’s all that really matters (I personally think Calc I and Calc I are easy at BU (121/122/123/124) . If you took Calc AB or BC in high school… it should be MUCH easier/ easy A. However don’t get lazy, cause it will come back and bite you in your ass.

Calling CH101 easy really depends on a person-by-person basis. Most of my friends & I struggled quite a bit with the tests. It’s a tough course and weeds people out. I wasn’t even pre-med and it weeded me out, haha. I studied hardcore for that class too.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t take it- by any means! I’m just saying it might be tough for you, as it is for many people. I think a 3.2 is absolutely attainable though.

I’m really interested in BU and I’m completely in love with Boston.

I heard the Psychology program is really great. Can anyone majoring in psychology describe it?

Thanks
