I ordered that package of dorm stuff this last year, and it was perfect, especially because I live far away from boston. They deliver them right across the street from Warren, and it comes with multiple sets of sheets and towels, which was nice. And I would bet that getting all of that stuff separate would be more expensive.

you should check the condition of some of your scholarships. This may not apply to you but I know that one of the scholarships I am given by BU requires me to live in on campus housing, plus you could also be getting a housing grant (i do) that would require you to stay in on campus housing in order to keep getting it

I’m actually already a student here, but I had a question about South Campus for anyone who lives there or has lived there…
I’m going to be living in 46 Mountfort…I’ve only ever been in the Park Drive apartments so I have no idea what the Mountfort apartments look like. Does anyone know?
I mean in terms of like furniture…like, in west we had a dresser and a closet…is it the same? Is the closet like a wardrobe, an actual regular closet, or a thing like in West? Will I have my own, or will I share with my roommate (I have a double room in an apartment) ?

Also, do they ever eventually list who my other two roommates are? Me and my current roommate just chose a room in an apartment and have no idea who the other two girls living there are…

When do roommate selections get sent out for freshman? When is that last date to request a specific person instead of random???

@JDR140: definitely don’t buy from the package. it’s convenient but expensive and not very comfortable or personal. the beds at BU are typically extra long but you only need extra long sheets/mattress pads and you can get whatever size comforters, etc. the stuff isn’t great quality in my opinion…

@shoot4moon: I forget but I think we got it around mid august to late august. a lot of people found out super late. the earlier you submitted it, the earlier you received your assignment. you can edit your housing request app until you get assigned so you have a really long time to make changes

@xhomefryy Thanks for the advice. We actually ended up getting everything at our local Department Store. They were running a great 50% off sale & ended up getting everything we needed, great quality & spent around $100. Even got an extra set of sheets too.
We should be all set!

Which of the mostly-upperclassmen dorms are the most outgoing and best for being social and meeting people?

I’m getting a choice of a graduation gift of either a wireless printer or a television for BU. What do you guys think is the better choice overall for my dorm? Should I have my own printer or is it easy to just print in libraries? How many sheets do we get?

get the tv. having your own printer can be ok, but it’s usually more money than it’s worth. you can easily print from the libraries etc. i’m not sure how many sheets you get…I think it’s somewhere around 100 and then it’s a certain number of cents per page after that.

Sorry if it’s been asked, but what’s BC’s reputation on campus?

@wickedfish I would say 575 Commonwealth Avenue, or as everyone at BU calls it HoJo, might be a good fit. It is mostly sophomores and freshmen, which keeps it from being a freshman dorm. Still, a lot of floor bonding happens and all. I lived there last year during my sophomore year. While I enjoyed my freshman experience in Warren, I wouldn’t have minded living in HoJo as a freshman either. There are private bathrooms and AC too as additional perks!

@tinetime I second the TV for sure! It is good to be the one who owns the TV too. I have had my tiny one since freshman year and consider it a great investment.

@bronovan BU and BC have a big hockey rivalry. Since hockey is our biggest and most regarded sport, this spills over into campus life. There are a lot of little jokes about BC being awful and sucking. We definitely have a bit of a rivalry going on especially during hockey season. That being said, plenty of people still have friends at BC who they get along with just fine.

Thanks a lot guys!! I’m going with the TV :)

I don’t know if this has been asked, but I was wondering whether BU had a minimum senior year second semester GPA we are meant to maintain. I also wanted to know if we are required to send transcripts. (I think i got an email sometime back about it, but I can’t find it in my email or on the website) thANKS!

Venn, I am not completely sure but assuming you got in with B+/A-'s and didn’t drop to as low as a D you should be fine. You should definitely send transcripts once they are complete by asking your guidance counselor to do this. They will review them over the summer.

@tine you get about 100 sheets per semester, and adding more is about $.08 a page (they recently raised this I believe). COM students get unlimited printing, while SMG students get a ton of free quota and $.05 additional pages. They are pretty stingy about paper, but putting in $20-30 is enough printing for a year, which costs less than the hassle of maintaining a printer especially when it jams. You can print in residential dorm mailrooms right out of the quota (Warren, West, probably some others) and the Mugar central library on campus.

Hey! I was looking at ways to ship my stuff to BU. Is it better to use sites like boxmydorm.com to ship stuff, or will UPS to my dorm room be just fine?

@Versii What if I get two 79% C+. I got admitted with low to mid B’s and 2 Cs. GPA weighted 3.6. The clases are AP biology and AP poli sci.

@tinetime15: Wireless doesn’t exactly work in some of the dorms either. I know some people that had printers with wireless capabilities but it would not work no matter what. I’m thinking it’s something with the BU network not allowing it? So good job getting the TV! For printing, COM students do NOT get free printing. It’s open to EVERYONE. It’s in the COM building but you just log into the computer into the computer labs with your kerberos password and you have unlimited printing!

@VennFenrir: I don’t think there is a grade to maintain but def send in your transcripts. You will probably be okay with those grades… they don’t care that that much about your final grades for the year

Sort of a weird question, but do the dorms have private bathrooms?

Some of them do… [BU Housing Boston University](Boston University Housing)

Look into the different buildings and setups, it all varies.
