@equestrian616: In my opinion I think Myles is a bad place to be as a freshman. our room mates will most likely be upper classmen and you probably won’t be living near any freshman. This just means instead of making friends with people you live with or near, you have to make friends through orientation, classes, etc. Also, it means after parties or whatever you’ll probably be walking alone. Not to scare you or anything! Who knows, you might be with other freshman :)!

Thanks for letting me know… Althoug I have to admit I’m glad I don’t have to be in a dorm with other crazy freshmen. Also a good friend of mine from home happens to be on the same floor so maybe we’ll manage together. But thanks for the heads up!

If I apply for Early Admission and then retake the SATs after the deadline, can I also send in the new scores and have my admission reconsidered?

Hi I am trying to apply for the early admission on November but I haven’t taken SAT and SAT subject tests yet.
I will be taking the SAT on October so my scores will come in November just in time but I won’t be able to take my subject tests till November 4th I believe.
Is it still ok to apply for early admission without having taken any subject tests?

Is BU’s early admission the thing called January admission on their site?

^ No it’s the thing called Early decision on their site

Ah okay, sorry. I thought the above posters were insinuating that there was an early action program.

Can you get Sox tix through BU?

only for special programs…sometimes clubs or colleges buy up a bunch of em and sell em at discounted prices. but there isn’t a program permanently in place. that said you can get cheap tickets for the Huntington Theater, the Boston Symphony, and MFA admission is free.

yeah what BUBailey said. Like I remember for the beginning of the year COM students had a chance to go to a sox game with discounted tickets through BU

They had them for sale at really cheap prices at the Comm Ave Fair last year, which BU will be having once again this year at the beginning of the year…so keep an eye out there! Either way, you should try getting tickets on Stubhub to go to a game. I try to go to a couple a season as a pretty diehard Sox fan. You can’t beat being so close!

What kind of stats are necessary to get the Dean’s scholarship? I have a 2120 SAT and 3.7 unweighted, 4.1 weighted GPA. Will I get it? What kind of scores do I need?

I heard we could move in before September 3-4, and that the earliest was August 31. Is that true, cause I would love to do that.

fearthefall, you can move-in as early as the 31st. You pick your date on the studentlink under residence assignment. That being said, meals don’t start until September 3rd. There will be a lot of freshmen on campus for FYSOP from the 29th-2nd but they’ll all be preoccupied pretty much 24/7, so it could get kinda lonely. In addition, the last orientation group will be in on the 31st and upperclassmen will be around for staffing various things.

I would say that September 2nd might be nice to beat the rush though, if that’s what you want! Or do FYSOP! They only have a handful of spots left, but it’s really awesome.

Few questions regarding housing…

I’m transferring to BU this fall, and was thankfully offered housing - I know some transfer students weren’t this year. Being a CFA student, I figured living in West (possibly on one of the ‘CFA’ specialty floors) would be a great option for me. Great location for my program and considering it’s a mostly freshman dorm (which has it’s pros and cons) I figured it’d be easier to meet people, make friends, and figure out the campus together…

I got my housing information yesterday, and it seems I’ve been placed in a suite at 1019 Commonwealth Ave… with what looks like a group of 5 sophomores, who are already friends (yea, the first thing I did was check facebook, lol.). The actual dorm looks nice. Again, great location… and while I don’t love the idea of having 5 roommates, the private bathroom seems like a plus. I don’t know anyone in Boston, and I’m not sure how it’ll be at 1019, in terms of meeting new friends.

I’m considering requesting a room change (I’m not sure if it’s possible to make a specific request - as the only other dorm I’d like to be in would be West)…

But before I do, I’d love some advice from current BU students. Please? Thoughts on the dorm? Social aspect? Being stuck as the odd man out to a group of 5 friends…?

I’m horribly indecisive - any help is appreciated. Thanks.

how difficult are chem 171(life science chem) and bio 105(bio for health sciences)

Thanks for the info @Lauren591! I was considering doing FYSOP, but decided I wanted to spend as much time home with my friends/family before I went off to college.

I have another question, though: Is it recommended to bring a tv? Or do most people live without one? I’ve been talking with my roommmate about one of us getting a tv, and the other getting the microfridge, but now I’m not not sure if the tv will even be worth it. Any opinions about this?

@eddy4188–1019 is a super nice place to live, and it’s a race for upperclassmen to pick it when housing selection comes along. that being said, what year are you? if you’re a junior, you probably would want to stay there, because living in West (Claflin,Sleeper, and Rich) is full of mostly freshmen and some sophomores. CFA is relatively small, so you will meet a decent number of people in your classes. It depends on whether or not you believe a private bathroom is a big deal, along with being with more upperclassmen as opposed to underclassmen.

@fearthefall: People with tvs my freshmen year was about 50%. Personally, i just watched a lot of tv on my computer, and if i wanted to watch a particular show with a bunch of people, i would go to someone else’s room. I did miss just browsing the channels, though.

fearthefall, I think having a TV is nice. It’s definitely not a necessity but if you can get one, you might as well. I watch most shows that I follow on my computer since I’m rarely home at the time that they come on TV. Still, having a TV on in the background while doing homework on a rainy day or just to watch with my roommates has been good. I like the option of watching movies on there too if guests come over.

Thanks @shiningstar91.

I have heard nice things about the place, and like I said before I’m grateful for any housing at this point, as some transfer students weren’t given it this year. I’m transferring in as a sophomore (although I’m still in the process of appealing my credits, I should easily have enough to be considered a junior). The private bathroom to me seems like a pro and con - the shower situation between all 6 of us seems like it’ll be difficult, but I’ll manage. I’m still unsure at this point, but I’m leaning more towards staying where I’m at. Thanks again.
