bl4ke360 - just buy an ethernet switch like this:

[Amazon.com: TRENDnet 5-Port GREENnet Switch (5 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports) TE100-S50g (Black Metal): Electronics](http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-GREENnet-100Mbps-Auto-MDIX-TE100-S50g/dp/B002EP30EM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1313977669&sr=8-4)

Then you’ll need 5 ethernet cables (one going to the wall) if you don’t want to keep plugging and unplugging. 2 laptops?

Thanks for the link but would that thing divide the signal strength among all of the ports?

A desktop and two laptops? Thats a little overkill :stuck_out_tongue: Yeah you will need to get a LAN router. Wireless routers are against university policy (security issue). And they don’t slow down the connection a noticeable amount so don’t worry.

TheDon: when it comes to internships it will matter much more what your grades are, what you do, and what your personality is like than what school you go to. The engineering programs are well regarded at CPP. I got a call from Boeing for an interview a few weeks back so just keep your grades up and you’re fine!

Using the book search system on bronco direct, if it said “required” so does that mean For Sure that the teacher required students to have or did the bookstore put that there based on the course?

I need to start searching for cheap books, I’ll be spending about $302 for fall based on school bookstore price >.<

I’ve had teachers that had “required” books and “required” readings but did their entire class completely independently of the book. I always wait until the first day of class to order books unless I already know that I’m going to need it. Never order your textbooks from the bookstore. Order them online from half.com or amazon.com. Get them used and get a slightly older edition for the best price.

Hi Frenchie! I’m attending for Aerospace Engineering, and it’s a little broad, but do you have any tips for my first year? I’m enrolled in MAT 115, SPN 151, CHM 121 w/ L, ARO 101L, and MU. And I’ll be in Montecito 3rd Floor

Btw, is it alright to buy previous editions for textbooks for some classes? B/c the problems might not be the same? Like for some classes like math and chemistry is it alright to buy previous editions?

abpham, first and foremost, you are awesome. I say this because you are basically the same person I was a year ago haha. First things first, who are your teachers? I’ll let you know if you have any bad ones that you need to try and switch. Sign up for 4-year pledge if you haven’t done so already. If you need to take ENG 104 do everything in your power to get into it (I don’t know if it’s still required to have taken it to sign up for 4-year). Leave your door open whenever you’re in your room. Read the other hundred posts on this forum for random tips that I’m not thinking of.

For textbooks you can almost always get away with getting an older version (or an international version where available (ARO 101-103 textbook)). I never used my Chem book once but your teacher might be different. All of our homework was online on a site called Mastering Chemistry (a real love/hate/hate relationship). I never bought the math textbook. I’ll let you in on a little secret: Montecito 3rd will be filled with tons of engineers/science/math majors so just be friendly and you can get by with borrowing a textbook for homework. The guy across the hall from me never bought a book all year.

Spend every moment mentally preparing yourself for your Junior year. Living and breathing school will take on a whole new meaning. Ask around for stories about professor Georgiades so that you know what to expect when you get into his class at the end of Sophomore year. Your first “weeder” class is Vector Statics (which you should be taking your Spring quarter). This is the first class that more students fail than pass. Take it very seriously when you get there. I did about 11 hours of work per week for that one class. It ate my weekends whole ='(

My last piece of advice: This is something that you’ll hear from Professor Dobbs at some point in one of his classes. In Aerospace we let about 200-250 students in every year. Every year we graduate about 40 students. If you’re not going to take school seriously then change your major right now. If you are then welcome to CPP Aero!

Haha thanks man! If I’m like you then you’re just awesome too then! Uh I have for Math: Ives, Spanish (Staff), ARO 101L Hudson, and it says Opotowsky for Chem on my StudentCenter but on the bookstore Section 13 is supposed to be Dang so i’m like derping it right now. and my Music Appreciation teacher is Cahueque. I think I signed up for 4-year pledge, but they haven’t responded to me yet. Haha, I went to the last Orientation i think on Aug 15-17, so all of the English classes were filled up and closed  Haha so I’ve heard about the 3rd floor! I’ve already talked to my roommate and I know some people on the floor so it’ll be a boss year! The wi-fi’s a bummer tho…

I got an international for my ARO book already haha. I’m trying so hard to find the Chemistry books really cheap, but i can’t find the ISBN for the set so I’m trying to find each book individually. DAMN I just bought a math textbook T-T.

Haha dude after the advising thing I was uncertain at first before orientation about Aerospace Engineering and considered switching to Mechanical, but then ya the presentation for ARO was really cool, and I’m stoked for starting already!

And thanks a lot! haha this is like very helpful for me VERY

Ives is a good Math teacher according to my sources. Hudson is good. He’ll work you pretty hard but you’ll learn the material. Never, EVER, take a class with Gonda. I’m not kidding. I feel like I should take ARO 101 again because he didn’t teach us a single damn thing. It was terrible. Opotowsky is a good teacher and Dang is not so try to figure out which one it is. Send some emails and make some calls: https://win.webdev.csupomona.edu/bronco411/search/</a> Caheque is supposedly good. Keep trying for ENG 104 every quarter because it’s a prereq to every upper div class and is hard to get into. Check if you need it for 4-year pledge. I’m not kidding when I say that 4-year pledge will save your life. I had the time of my life on 3rd floor last year and I’m sure you will too! And yeah no wifi kind of sucks… But you can get a non-wifi router to give you more ethernet ports. If you decide to be a rebel and get a wifi router make sure to give it the highest level of security (WPA-PSK2) and give it a password with letters, numbers, symbols, and capitols.

Like I said, I never opened the Chem book. Just wait til the first day and find out if you need it to do homework problems but I very highly doubt it. CHM 121 is so basic that you can find everything you need online. At least you’ll use the math book for a while. I think it goes until 215 in that book but I don’t remember.

Mechanical isn’t a bad idea. You can go into any field of engineering with a degree in ME. But if you’re really passionate about Aerospace then you know where you belong. If you find after a couple 100 level ARO classes that you don’t like it all that much then it’s an easy transition into ME.

Lol I was checking ratemyprofessor ratings, and they all got good reviews so I’m happy haha since those classes were like I chose b/c most of the classes were closed. I’ll take your advice to heart! I’m pretty sure I have Opotowsky though, I’m just waiting on my Spanish and Chem Lab :frowning: dun dun dun. Is Math 214 open during Spring? or should I just take the Vector Statis course then. I hope I get into 4 year pledge haha. I’m a total non-rebel lol I’m gonna get a cable expansion for xbox and laptop :D. Does 4-year pledge get us priority registration?

Ya I think I’ll take your advice on the chemistry book part, but I think I have to buy my spanish books lol smh I met buy my other math textbook too then or ask a friend to switch between Calculus: early transcendentals and single variable calculus

I’ve been considering minoring in Mechanical if I could, but I would have to take a lot of GE classes during summers lol to clear open my schedule

About the financial aid… they aid never disburses before the fees are due. They put some sort of indicator on your file (you can’t see it, only they can) that will hold your classes for you until your aid comes through. Everyone who receives aid is in the same boat.

That is how it works, the aid is suppose to be disbursed on 9/12 according to BroncoDirect.

Also, I have a question about the dorms. What exactly can you put in there? What kind of electronics, like can you have a mini-fridge or microwave, anything like that?

Anything that’s not a safety hazard you can bring in the dorms. Blacklisted items include toasters, candles (or anything with open flames), WiFi routers, and anything illegal (obviously). Some general info can be found here: [Check-In Residence Halls](http://dsa.csupomona.edu/uhs/check_in_residence_halls.asp) Almost every dorm had a mini fridge and a microwave. A microwave isn’t as important as you can always use someone else’s if they don’t mind. Mini fridge is a little more important.

Frenchie,
Is it difficult for non-engineering majors to get approval to take engineering courses? The possible scenario is for a student whom may not be able to get admitted to Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering because the two disciplines are impacted majors at Cal Poly Pomona. Could a Physics major get permission to take a few Engineering classes?

I’ve seen non-Aro majors in my intro courses. There are certain courses only available to engineering majors (the first of which I think is vector statics). As far as I know, so long as it doesn’t say X or Y major only you can sign up for it

Should I order books before school starts or should I wait until the first day of class? I’m afraid the book might be changed or not needed at all.

Hey I’m a current student at an out of state school and I’m thinking of going back to California and possibly CPP. I was wondering how good CPP’s Ag program is because I am an Ag major, specifically the Agribusiness program. Also, I was wondering how difficult it is to transfer to CPP from an out of state. Thanks.

I can’t find one of my classes (EGR 100) it says building 17 2634. I looked everywhere in building 17 and no room had that number, there weren’t any quad-digit numbers in the building so where is it??

blake, I think its building 17 level 2 and room 634
