Anyone have any opinions or know anything about either? I read about them online, but I’m still unsure of which one I’d rather live in. I don’t need costs because I read it all on the website, but as far as social life, spacing, bathrooms, etc. goes, which one would you prefer to live in?

My brother has lived in both, and currently in suites. The dorms are much more vibrant with people than the suites. However the suites win in space and bathrooms. They have the bathrooms inside the suites, depending on the layout. The dorms are very small and cramped and you share the bathrooms with the floor.

I say live in the dorms the first year, meet people and experience the dorm life, then move into a suite with friends

Sounds reasonable! Do you know if your brother had a double or a triple, by any chance?

When I toured Cal Poly, I was advised by a current student who was working in the housing office to definitely avoid triple! They put you in the same small room, but with more people.

Actually yes he had a triple, where he met a roomate that now lives with him in the suites (good friends) and a bad one that annoyed him all year. So a triple is a risky choice but may give you a good roomate.
However yes it was very cramped, try to organize the most you can with your roomate.
If i go next year, im thinking of a triple but not sure.

I’m going to be an incoming freshman too. I just visited the school today. I would recommend the Encinitas, Montecito, Alamitos, or Aliso Residence Hall. That’s the building with the brick walls. The other residence halls which is also for freshmans are very tight. PLUS, the other residence hall have a super small lounge. The above residence halls I mentioned have a probably 10x bigger lounge. Seriously.

I’m going to Engineering Day this Saturday so I’m hoping I’ll have a chance to peek at some of those dorms you mentioned! How did they look regarding cleanliness?

The lounge is always clean. I wouldnt know about the dorm rooms because they showed me a tidy sample room. You should sign up for the dorms soon because when I visited the school today, they said they get a lot of applicants. If you want a good room, you should sign your housing contract which I just did today. I found out the housing contract started in January. I wouldn’t be suprised if I didnt get one of the rooms I wanted. I’m also going to be an engineering major. I didnt know there was an Engineering Day. By the way, you should sign up for a tour so they can show you around the campus. I didn’t sign up but I did a self-guided tour with my friend. We walked a lot. We even walked to the farm store!

Do you know if financial aid will pay for orientation and enrollment? I don’t think I will be notified of my financial aid til the summer. How would I make the deadline in May/June?

Also, does anyone know where freshmens can get a job on campus?

Oh wow, thanks! I’m a little excited now haha! And yeah, I’m trying to work up the $300 house deposit so hopefully I sign my contract soon! And I don’t think financial aid will pay for your ECD or orientation because the website says the estimated delivery date for our financial aid awards will be approximately August (forgot the day, sorry haha). I think you’re on your own with that :(

I have no idea about the jobs, but that’s something I’ve been wondering too!

is anyone applying to the suites? What vista are you hoping to get?
