Ask a Current Howard Student

Congratulations on all of your acceptances! I just have a quick question. For everyone whose been accepted thus far, on your online application, does it say “decision made” or " ready for review"?

Congratulations future Bison! I’m currently a freshman at HU and I’m preparing to finish up my first semester. If you have any questions about Howard life, feel free to ask :).

@seke67
plz look at ur college confidential inbox !

How is the journalism/broadcasting program?

for all those that got accepted, did u get it in the mail with fed ex or did u see it online? my profile says decision made but its been saying that since november. when did u get it or should i say how u got it? all help is appreciated. Thanks!

yeah i was accepted and it still just says decission made online

but yeah how is the broadcast journalism/communications?? and whats the campus life like at howard

I’m in the College of Arts and Sciences but I took a course in the School of Communications this semester and have a few friends in the school.

Broadcast Journalism is a fairly popular major within the school and from what I’ve gathered, it’s a fairly strong program. I’ve heard the professors aren’t bad but one of the biggest pluses of the program is HU’s location. Being in DC, there are a lot of internship opportunities at places like CNN, The Washington Post and other news outlets. Howard was actually one of a few schools selected this semester to participate in a program called “ABC News on Campus”.

A lot of journalism students (broadcast and print) write for the school newspaper, The Hilltop. Although more recently it’s had some issues, The Hilltop is a really great paper to write for. It’s been ranked the best college newspaper on at least two occasions and has a really interesting history. If you have time you should really Wikipedia it.

As with any school and degree program, it is what you make of it. I met a guy here who’s graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and because of connections he’s made through interning summer after summer, he’ll be a broadcaster for Fox in his area. He explained to me that many major news networks have tiers of broadcasters with the
lowest tier reaching a smaller audience, the middle tier reaching a broader audience, and the highest tier reaching really large audiences (and I guess they would be national broadcasters?). Through the connections he’s made interning, he’ll be starting as a middle tier broadcaster.

You should really make your best effort to join the Annenberg Honors Program. I believe entrance requires a 3.5 GPA and a 1200 SAT score (out of 1600). It comes with a lot of perks like early registration, special courses, and a lot of special access.

Check out the School of C’s website for information on the types of courses they offer and such.

As for campus life…hmm…that’s a really broad question. What specifically would you like to know about it?

still no change on the website. it still says “incomplete items outstanding” I’m calling howard today.

i apply early admiss. i called twice, & they still havent updated or processed my documents. and im biting my nails wondering if im getting in or not. ugh.

question: whats howard like during the winter time lols?

Hi, I have a question for a HU Student! If you remember filling out your housing agreement…Do you fill out the paper and send it to HU first, and then fill out the roommate preference sheet…or do you do both at the same time?

I am freaking out over here. I really hope I get in.

seniors 2011 thats a good question i was wondering that today also
i sent out my housing application today without the preference paper…im starting to worry that i should have done them together…

Also another question is what do you think of the housing…particularly the Bethune Annex…thats where i applied for and i looked around online and that seems to be one of the top for female housing

ME TOO! What Are Your Stats Looking Like?

YAYYYY!!! I GOT ACCEPTED!!! SO EXCITED! I’m not filling out my papers till I hear from my other EA schools though… GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THOUGH! =)

when did you apply “Ohwhere”?

Hey everyone! Just so you know, I haven’t forgotten about you all. I have finals this week so expect a response to everyone’s questions around Wednesday.

Question,

on the website, it says my application was created on November 3rd. does this mean I missed early action?

thanks.

when you look at your app online it should say “application type” above you app status. and it’ll say early action or whatevr

On application type it just says, “early entrant”

oh then your prob regular addmission but you’ll get acceptance earlier than most
