Oyama -- are you the same Oyama who got selected to be a Muir OL? j/w because I saw that name in the Muir email and I was like, hmmmm

Wow, so much 64 Smash love. That game is ridiculously imbalanced, even when compared to Melee.

ucsdhopeful, no, he's a friend of mine who lives in Tenaya. I might apply next year when I have more time =

chowdy - If balance is a problem, you can always just play as the same character as your opponent to even things out ;)

And if you do get into UCSD I recommend when you fill out the survey to be VERY cautious.

Very true. Be sure to take that survey very seriously, make sure you're not just BSing the answers and you should be able to get compatible suitemates/roommates. i definitely regret it a little becuz I didn't put too much attention to it. but i get along with my suitemates fine, but they're just a little different than me.

Lol, I should be studying for finals but I'll just state a couple random things about the campus/life etc.

Overall, the campus is really chill and you definitely get that vibe when you're walking around campus. People in general all seem chill.

In terms of the dorm food, IMO Sierra Summit, OVT and Canyon Vista are the better ones. I live in Warren so I'm a bit sick of CV but I do admit that they have a decent selection, and their stir-fry is pretty good. However, Sierra Summit's Philly cheesesteak+breadsticks are the sickness. they also have smoothies and stuff but i've never tried them.

Gaming: There are a LOT of gamers here in Warren, IMO. They play everything here...well at least from the people I've gotten to know, most of them do.

Classes are okay but because of the crazy pace you have to be on top of everything every week...you really never get a break.

Warren Res Halls: If you get in, and you get into Warren, APPLY FOR A SINGLE!!!! I doubted my decision to get one at first (because maybe I'd feel isolated), but I've found that it's not the case at all. I usually end up hangin out in other peoples' rooms or the common area so it's not like you feel socially isolated. Plus it's nice to have your own space. So it's definitely worth the extra 500 bucks.

The suite-style makes you a little isolated from the rest of your suites, and sadly I think my suite didn't make the effort to meet other people on the floor. So, if I could do it again, I would have went around my floor trying to meet different people.

Bathrooms are okay, there seems to be water problems sometimes but usually it's fine.

well i took that survey seriously and i dislike my roommates. we don't hate each other. our lifestyles and preferences are just different. one's uber messy and the other sleeps really early...i'm kind of clean and i sleep REALLY late, among other factors. suffice to say, i'm getting a single next year.

sorry ive been off for this thread for a while, FINALS WEEK IS KILLING ME! but thanks to the other UCSD kids helping me answer questions. Props!

Yeah i know lots of people that took the survey seriously but still ended up with crappy/incompatible roommates.

maybe this is because the other people didnt take their own surveys seriously?
but yeah im really worried about roommates because i tend to be a recluse - but a single is IMO a waste of money :(

actually yeah, the survey won't guarantee you'll get w/ people you're compatible with but there's definitely a higher possibility

but a single is IMO a waste of money
[/quote]

Wrong. If you compare the size of a single for one person and the amount of space you get living in a triple, $500 will be a small expense. I got a call from HDS over the summer asking if I wanted a single, but turned them down since I had requested to live with a friend from HS.

well i know i said waste of money, but i didnt mean it that way. haha its just that my parents expect me to spend my OWN money for extraneous things like that, and id much rather use that 500 to save up for a better laptop or something.

also, even now in HS i practically live in the library, so im guessing thats where ill be most of the time in college (esp since geisel is open till two everyday - dont know about clics) also! clics apparently (haha read this from yet another ucsd spam email) is open twenty four hours during finals week.

so i guess im stuck in a double or triple! unless!!! you kind folks will donate money to my 'singles' fund! or ... i can get an extra job :(

If you think you'll be living in the library all day, then you may be mistaken. With UCSD being an academic school, many students used to be the "nerdy" type in High School but soon changed due to the change in atmosphere and the amount of things to do in college.

You're going to find that you'll want to spend more time in your room or other people's pretty soon =

haha yeah probably! in fact i might go to the extreme and be like... the head of a sorority and be all crazy ;) thats what college is for haha

hello everyone- does anyone know if the English department is any good?

It's not exceptional. English seems to be dismissed as one of the weaker departments in all the UCs. NYU, U of Chicago, UVA, and others seem to have really strong English and Writing.

I know UCSD is known for the sciences, but how are its history/poli sci programs?

eh i dont know but there are lots of poli sci majors

iduhxd!! jessica wants you to pick up your phone or call her back asap. (sorry to interrupt this thread but apparently this girl spends all her time on cc like the rest of us and blocks the rest of the world off so the only way to communicate with her is through cc) haha love you!

i heard ucsd's poli sci is actually pretty good, like top 10 or something, don't quote me on that though...i just remember reading that somewhere.

How is the enrolling in classes done? My girlfriend goes to UCLA and to me it looks like enrollment process there is pure madness. Is it any different at SD?
