Does Deerfield have a cheerleading team?

This thread from last year has a lot of useful information about the academics, arts, athletics, and boarding life at Deerfield that prospective applicants find useful.

[Deerfield Girls Cross Country Wins New Englands!](http://deerfield.edu/2012/11/deerfields-girls-cross-country-wins-new-englands/)

how did deerfield do on choate day? (:

Just as the logo on our Ts said: “Choaties, like Wheaties, is the breakfast of Champions”.

Beat Choate!!!

to bingalot: you are probably going to deny this as i can tell you are trying to portray a wonderful image of Deerfield, and don’t get me wrong, I adore Deerfield and am going to try to get in this fall. It seems to me that the school is very preppy, and almost everyone (or at least all of the “popular” kids) play lacrosse and hockey, wear nothing but ralph and vineyard vines (guys), j.crew and jack rogers and uggs and patagonias (girls), and vacation in Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket where they all belong to yacht clubs. Everyone is like that where I live also, but I just wanted to clarify that that’s how it really is and let future applicants know what it’s like. I don’t even know anyone who has gone to Deerfield or been there myself, but I can tell just from looking at the website. I understand if you deny this and say Deerfield is a wonderfully diverse community, but I’m not so sure.

Does Deerfield have a cheerleading team? Not exactly a team in the traditional sense. Deerfield cheerleaders are upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) who try out in front of the whole school in their loudest and proudest Deerfield green and white gear and prepare a few cheers that they have made up and or some that everyone knows to get the crowd pumped up and cheering! The existing cheerleaders then vote on who they think has the most school spirit out of the people that tried out and there is an induction ceremony to welcome the new cheerleaders. The cheerleader have big cones that they paint and use at games to yell through and they also have sweaters with large Ds on them–if you’re ever at one of our games you cannot miss them!

Hilarious, GoldBlue.
Do I smell bacon?
Nonetheless it was great to be with our school and cheer all of our teams on.

I’m not sure if you can “clarify for that that’s how it really is and let future applicants know what it’s like” if say “I don’t even know anyone who has gone to Deerfield or been there myself, but I can tell just from looking at the website”. Sure there are people who wear those clothes but who says that the girl wearing those Jack Rogers isn’t an international student from India? She does not necessarily have to vacation in Nantucket or play lacrosse. Maybe that girl wearing the converse does vacation in those places you mentioned and has not picked up a lacrosse sick in her life. Maybe she dances. My point is that you cannot assume that “the popular kids” if you can even use that term, dress or act a certain way. YES it is true that some people dress that way but that does not mean that they automatically are snobby rich kids or automatically “popular”. Maybe that girl you see likes those Jack Rogers or maybe her feet are cold and she just so happened to own a pair of uggs and a patagonia so she put them on.What most people don’t understand is that the articles of clothing are not what matter and where you vacation does not matter–it’s about how you treat people and interact with those around you. If you find yourself with someone who is judging someone elese for their choice in sweaters I suggest you tell them to adjust their priorites. Of course not every community is going to be completely diverse and yes, there will be those people that come from New England and have dressed the way that you explained all of their life. That does not make them bad people just as the boys who do not play lacrosse are not automatically shunned from Deerfield society. Deerfield does its best to admit diverse individuals who can contribute something to the Deerfield community and that has nothing to do with whether or not you belong to a yacht club.
And I promise that Deerfield girls are not the only ones who wear Jack Rogers. Seriously? I don’t even own a pair.
Any other questions? Don’t let the “Deerfield stereotype” discourage you from looking into it. I love it here and I understand that not everyone would enjoy coming to DA…just make sure that you really do your research.

I would add to what bingalot said, about 35% of the student body at Deerfield is on financial aid. I’m sure they don’t have country club memberships. But you’ll find preppy kids at all NE boarding schools. Visit the schools, talk to students so that you can make an informed decision.

I would like to know how is deerfield for foreigners. But my main question is about the admission for foreigners students, how does it happen? because I am from Brazil, and kind of my math, physics, chemistry is very advanced, but I have never done the PSAT or SSAT, or even the SAT.

Here is a link to Deerfield Admissions: [How to Apply](http://deerfield.edu/apply/how-to-apply/)

You need to take the SSAT by January testing date, preferably by the December test date.

Since when do "“super poor”, “underpriveledged” kids go skiing and play squash?

If you “need almost full scholarship” but not a full scholarship, then you are not poor, and you are trivializing the challenges real poor kids face.

trollin?..

nah, I don’t think it’s trolling. Just youthful, teenage lack of economic perspective

Bumping for new applicants. Sorry I have been out for some time as I’m prepping for SATII exams.

@GMT I don’t know about skiing, but there is an interesting phenomenon of urban squash programs across the country. Often these programs are used to help urban minority youngsters improve their lot.

Here’s the umbrella organization:
[Mission / National Urban Squash + Education Association](Mission / Squash and Education Alliance)

I would never have known about it (no one in my neck of the woods plays squash), had I not met a young woman at Blair who was recruited through one of the member programs.

Which is not to defend ENSEKK’s silly post.
Just sayin’

What are the dorms like, and how is the dress code?

Hi
i was supposed to apply to deerfield last year for 10th grade but i couldn’t because i did not have enough time to turn in the application and someone already took my free space. (I called the school in June and they said they were willing to offer an interview for me and schedule to put me in the school but i replied late and they said someone took the space and there were no more space and I should try next year). So i am applying again to Deerfield for 11th grade next year. I go to a good boarding school in Massachusetts but it is not my top choice. I am more of a sports than academic person. I do swimming, soccer and lacrosse. my boarding school right now does not have a swim team and this is also one the reasons i am applying to deerfield. I am an international student(not from Asia no offense to Asians out there u guys rock) but born in America. I am not applying for financial aid because I don’t need it(I am not trying to brag, sorry if i sound like a snob) and I am applying for late applications in April 2013 for Deerfield. I did not get a good score on my ssat last year but I have been gettiing mostly A’s and A-'s this year in my new school 10th grade. in my old school in 8th grade-9th grade I didn’t so that well because of personal issues but now that I am at boarding school I am actually doing better. so i there a slight chance I might get into deerfield for 11th grade in september 2013.
Please be honest
thankyou
