Ask a Deerfield freshmen!

Hi! I’m applying to Deerfield for 11th grade and was wondering what y’all think about the grade dynamic at the school and in particular, from the class of 2015. I’m worried that a transition into 11th grade would be difficult and was wondering what y’all think. Thanks and go big green!

Thanks so much mathwizz!

keisha 404, the dorm life is so great at Deerfield. I’m not sure what you are specifically asking about but I can tell you that by the end of the year you become very close not only to the people on your individual corridor but also just the people living in your dorm.
Dress code: [Class Dress Deerfield Academy](http://deerfield.edu/the-guide/rules-and-expectations/personal-conduct/class-dress/)
not too complicated and definitely manageable on a day to day basis!
…New students are embraced with open arms! Will it be difficult coming into a place where many of the students in your grade would have already known eachother for 2+ years? Yes. But DA does its best to make new students feel welcomed and between classes, dorm life, sports, and sit down meals you’ll make friends in no time!
There’s not much I can say with the “chance me” questions. There are just so many variables in admissions that even highly quallified applicants may not be accepted. Just do your best and best of luck with the application deadline approaching!

im 13 and in 8th grade. im a pretty smart student (I’ve never gotten below an A on my report card…ever) i also swim all year round 10 hours a week like my 100 fly time is a 1:04.15 and i compared my times to other girls at the school and i could beat most of them… would that help me get into the school? in 5th grade i was the head of basically a community service thing through rotary and school. i play some lacrosse. im also taking geometry this year. i currently go to a private school best in the area. i only ever struggle with science, but i still get an A or A+ in it… so what are my chances?

Could you talk about the pgs at Deerfield ?
Are they only athletic stars or do they also excel in academics ? ( sat, gpa when they get in as a one year student )
Do they fit in the community really well or do they hand around with each other all the time ?

Thank you.

How are your Debate and Model UN teams?

@Arabie, We have very active Debate and Model UN clubs with a lot of students participating from all grades. The Debate team won international tournaments and the Model UN team won many awards at the conferences.

@Planck101, Some courses like English are required. You’ll be placed into appropriate Math and Foreign Language classes based on the placement test results. Yes some students do take AP Calculus BC as freshmen. The math courses go all the way up to Differential Equations and you can do Math Independent Study with a Faculty Member. We have a very strong Math Team that routinely perform well in regional and national math competitions. Some on the Math Team are Junior Math Olympiad qualifiers. Explore the Math Curriculum below.

@Chrysanthe I know this is looking a little ahead in time, but did you get your acceptance package on March 10th or a little after. My chances are low but I still have faith, just preparing myself incase I don’t get any package on the 10th

I got my letter of admission on March 11th. The admission office mails out the letters on March 10th, so you’ll get them on March 11th or 12th depending on how far away you are like on the west coast. Since this year March 10th is a Sunday, so they’ll probably mail it on the 9th, so that you’ll get it on the 11th.

the green m&m’s were QUITE enjoyable if I do say so myself :D

BUMP!!! I know that March 10th isn’t too far away…I’d be happy to answer any last minute questions that you guys may have!

Hi bingalot! How do you find the course load? The teachers? And is it hard to get high grades?

Thanks for answering! How was y’all’s transition from day school to boarding school?

If I am an international student, will I recieve the letter via email?
