What are some common questions to expect?

How is music class there? Do they offer as much as Hotchkiss? (private lesson twice a week for free, theory lesson in small group)

We have a fabulous music department and course offerings. Deerfield pays for private music lessons if you are on FA.

[Performing Arts]( http://deerfield.edu/academics/academic-departments/the-arts/performing-arts/)

How are the AP Classes? Is there a limit as to how many AP Classes one can take each year?

Yes. Deerfield offers many AP Courses in all areas English, History, Math, Science, and the Arts. You can take as many AP courses as you wish. But the courses here are very demanding and require a lot of work to do well. The Honors classes offered here cover more in depth and in breadth than a typical AP Class.

We have several great speakers come to DA this year. [Roland Merullo to Speak at DA]( http://deerfield.edu/2012/01/roland-merullo-to-speak-thursday-1-26/)

Deerfield 2015, how did you and your friends find out you got accepted? Did you all get your letters on the 10th? Did they come regular mail or fedex? I read you get a skinny envelope first and a larger package later in the week. Is that right? Did your parents get envelopes the same day? And do you know anyone who got wait-listed and then got in?

Well I personally got my letter on the 11th of MArch and it came in a big Congratulations! package. They came in regular mail. You only get one big envelope if you get in (around MArch 10th) and a skinny envelope if you got waitlisted or turned down.
I do know of one freshmen in my class that got in off of the waitlist so never give up hope if you find yourself in that situation!

Honestly, how much partying/drugs/alcohol goes on?

Thanks Bigalot…I will be waiting impatiently for the mailman on the 10th!

Sorry Bingalot…not Bigalot

@ArtsyGal, Deerfield has a vibrant arts department with several orchestras/bands, dance groups, and theater. If you have a passion and a record of accomplishment in that area, that is a plus for admission. Good luck.

How many people get “straight A’s” all four years? Would it be around one-fifth of the students?

At Deerfield, the average is about 90 (give or take a point or two), so technically, almost everyone does extremely well at Deerfield for all four years. But a good percentage, maybe 30-40 percent do maintain 93% or higher.

@bingalot Did the acceptance package actually say congratulatiobns on it, or some indication that you had gotten in before you opened it? And may I ask where you lived before going to Deerfield? I ask so I can know if I should assume a rejection or waitlist if I don’t get a letter on the 10th, depending on your previous location in relation to Deerfield, MA.

@bingalot Did the acceptance package actually say congratulatiobns on it, or some indication that you had gotten in before you opened it?

You can judge by the thickness of the envelope.

It did in fact have a congratulations sticker on it. Let’s just say that although I live in the U.S I live quite a while away from Deerfield. I got m acceptance March 11th so don’t be worried if nothing comes on the 10th…in fact, it might even be a good thing!

Great article on page 29 of the Deerfield Magazine about science classes at Deerfield. Mr. Bakker talks about how Deerfield teaches problem solving through robotics - excellent article!
