Ask About Regents Here

@itsyaboiUCLA Personally, I just receive the honorarium amount bc my EFC/outside scholarships so I’m not entirely sure. There’s a special fin aid officer for regents, Anne Xiong , who could answer all your questions.

I was selected for regents. do i have to interview to keep my spot at berkeley?

If you got a regents invite you are already accepted into Berkeley (Congrats!), however, you are currently only a candidate for the scholarship. Final selection for the scholarship is determined after the interview

When do transfer students get the Regent’s invites? If ever?

@ericbadmon from reading other threads I’ve gathered that regents offers for transfers are attached with the acceptances that come out April 27th.

I am majoring in engineering and I had some problems with scheduling for the interview and by the time everything was resolved, all the engineering slots for interviews were booked. I chose the next best thing, mathematics and physical science and I was wondering if this has a huge impact on my interview. Will they ask why I like mathematics? Are the topics just there to pair interviewees with interviewers that are majoring in the same field? Any insight would be nice.

@rawtonevol I suspect it will be fine. We heard that the faculty who do the interviews choose which student to interview after looking at the applications. My son was planning to major in physics but has CS experience. He was interviewed by a CS professor and the interview went very well. (This was last year.)

There’s plenty of math in engineering. I’m sure they like engineers with math interests.

yo anyone know when they release regents results after the interviews?

@kevbostic it’s the same day regular acceptances come out or at least it was last year

anybody know if they’ll have ROHP any more after the April 13 date?

also do you know if registration is required for cal day?

@kevbostic all the ROHP dates are listed on the ROHP website. You can also do an overnight visit through he Overnight Stay Program (OSP) which is run by the Cal Alumni Student Associations. OSP has a small charge associated with it (don’t know what it is) and is open to all admitted students (you won’t learn more about regents through it). My friends who did it loved it and made a bunch of friends.

As far as I remember Cal day didn’t require registration

@hbrunner yep saw the dates on the website. was hoping they would add more dates, as not sure can make any prior to the last date of april 13, and that one would be difficult but not impossible…thanks for the heads up on the OSP

@hbrunner Because the Regents ROHP date is the 13th this year (a school day) but CalDay is the 21st, and we don’t live close (6 hour drive), which would you recommend that we attend? I don’t want to make my parents drive up there twice in the span of a week.

It depends on your questions about Cal. ROHP is a great chance to hear from current Regents Scholars and stay in the dorms whereas Cal Day is a lot better for learning about clubs and majors. I did both events last year, however, I committed before attending Cal Day so my objective at that point was mostly to get a feel for campus and pick a dorm not decide about SIRing. ROHP was a big factor for me because I got to meet people and have longer conversations. It helped me realize that I fit in well with Cal’s culture especially when I compared how easily I made friends there to other admitted students days I went to. During Cal Day I went to an interesting lecture on Russia-US relations and got to learn about some programs that I didn’t know about initially and explored some different majors. I actually found one of the student orgs I’m in now during Cal Day (PM me if you want to know specifics). I also toured all the dorms. Cal Day is a bit overwhelming because it has so much going on. If you go I highly recommend making a plan ahead of time (my dad had me make a schedule for us so that we could hit the things that were important to me and it helped a ton). Basically if you want a more intimate chance to see the school go to ROHP and if you want to see everything Cal has to offer and aren’t scared off by crowds go to Cal Day.

Probably should mention that Cal Day attracts accepted students, prospective students, and random community members who want to go to lectures so it differs from some other schools’ admitted students days. IDK if it’s posted yet but last year they had a website showing all the cal day activities and it might be helpful to compare the things you would be doing/seeing to the things you’d do at ROHP and decide what you prefer.

I am in the same boat. I have registered for ROHP on 4/13, but have to travel up from San Diego. I will be attending CAL day on 4/21 anyway. So, I am deciding whether I should go for ROHP on 4/13 too. @sarolis89 Are you also traveling up from South California?

didn’t get regents but got undergrad scholarship  will I be able to receive regent-like benefits if I keep a good gpa?

@AYF9510 What benefits you receive depends on the scholarship you got. Regents is determined when you are admitted so it’s impossible to become regents later regardless of GPA, however it’s not the only scholarship to confer non monetary benefits. Fiat Lux scholars (also determined during admissions) receive a lot of the same perks as regents with the exceptions of the research stipend and priority registration. I personally received the CAA Leadership Award which has given me invites to events with Alumni. My roommate has a scholarship that’s a combination of merit and need that doesn’t have any perks beyond the financial award and my friend across the hall has a similar scenario with a first gen scholarship (I think hers is called Generation Change).
