ask about the Cazenove Hall

My D was assigned to Cazenove Hall for double occupancy, anyone know something about Cazenove Hall? How big the room? How many closets? what's the type of the window? I wonder if the window is good for the box fan?

Thanks

Cazenove Hall is part of the Quad, which consists of four dorms of similar age and style (built in the early 1900’s). By D was in Shafer Hall her first year, and I believe the rooms in Casenove Hall are similar to those in Shafer. Her room was small–I estimate it was approximately 12’ X 15’?–with one double-hung window and one closet that she and her roommate shared. With the two twin beds, two desks and two dressers, there wasn’t must space left for anything else! A box fan does work in a double-hung window, although my D used a small oscillating tower fan that could sit on the window ledge move the air around the room.

I just found this 360 tour of a single dorm room in Caze on the Wellesley website and it’s pretty neat! I wish it had been there when my D was a prospie! Now, remember that this is a single, rather than a double:

Also, here are floor plans for Caze–but you can only access them using your D’s Wellesley Google sign in.

Love Caz! It’s right in the quad and lots of first years live there, so you’ll have a great community. The building is connected to Pomeroy (Pom) so you’ll likely have lots of friends/classmates in both. The rooms in the quad are all about the same. Most first years in the quad are in doubles so you’ll have 1 roommate and the room is decent sized. I think the closet is 1 large closet that you can split between the two of you.

Mamalin - were the beds bunked in Shafer? My d is assigned there, wands the rooms do look pretty tight :-)

sakacar–my D and her roommate did not bunk their beds—I’m not sure if the bed frames they had could be bunked. And it was pretty cozy in there! Maybe someone on the board with more knowledge could answer whether there are beds that can be bunked in Shafer.

Do they need floor lamp and curtain for the room? Since the campus is big, do they need a bike and is there any place to keep the bike in the campus?

You can bunk or not bunk your beds. Maintenance will help bunk/debunk your beds so you don’t have to hurt yourself doing it too.

Floor lamps are probably a good thing to get if you like lots of light. Curtains are optional as all rooms come with window shades but they add a personal touch.

Bikes are optional as well. There are lots of hills but if you’re one for going into the Ville a lot or have an off campus job, it might save you some time. I personally didn’t need one and felt walking around campus suited me fine (it took me about 12 mins to get from one end of campus to another). All dorms have bike racks outside (do get a lock) and you can store them in storage during the summer too. If you don’t want to purchase a bike, there is a campus bike share program too
