I know housing assignments were released on MyWellesley today for the incoming class of 2013. If anyone has any questions about housing in general or specific residence halls, feel free to ask.

hi i just got my room assignment. i am going to be living in stone X.
does anyone know what the stone dorm community is like…? or what the room is like? any information is appreciated.

Any info on Cazenove? What are the bathrooms like? Carpeting or hard-wood? Would a room in the 200’s be on the second floor?

Geez, I’m psyched. :D

Stone X is a medium-sized double in Stone-Davis. When I saw it before, the people had their beds bunked but you might be able to re-arrange the furniture if you want to. All the rooms in Stone-D have carpet. Also, Stone-D has a ground floor with rooms that start with 0…so technically, all the rooms that start with 1 are on the second floor imo (I’m used to buildings where the first floor is the main/ground floor).

Stone-D in general has a great community. A lot of people end up living their all four years and it’s one of the more popular reshalls on campus. You have a dining hall that’s open M-F also.

Caz is in the quint and is one of the smaller reshalls, so there’s always a great community there (as with all the quint reshalls). Caz has hard wood floors. The bathrooms are nice: the main bathroom on each floor has three toilets, three sinks, and two showers. There are also two smaller bathrooms and a private bathroom on the second through fourth floors. A room in the 200s is on the second floor for Caz (Caz doesn’t have a ground floor so when you walk in, you’re already on the first floor).

Yay! Thank you~

@firefly16842:

Also, I forgot to mention that Caz 2nd floor has the most first-years of any floor in Caz. There are about 13 first-year doubles on the floor and you’re all next to each other, so there’s definitely a lot of camaraderie. All the rooms are the same rectangular shape though the sizes can differ slightly depending if you have a corner room or not.

Hey! I just got my housing and i have a triple in Tower Court East. Any info on that? How many people share a bathroom? Whats the common room like? Are the triples big?

any info on mcafee?
i’m concerned bc a current student has said its known to be the “least social” of all dorms :(

I lived in McAfee for two years and loved my time there. I will say that McAfee has had a reputation of being less social in the past, but that is definitely changing. In the past, a lot of thesis seniors and science majors lived there, so a lot of the upperclasswomen were rather intensely academically focused. But in the past few years, I at least have seen McAfee move away from that in a sense. I know people who have lived there all four years, or multiple years at least, because they liked the friends they made there. The rooms are gigantic, especially for first-year doubles (believe me, your West Side friends will be jealous). You and your roommate will have individual closets, ample storage space, and depending on how you arrange your furniture you could have a good amount of space in your room. Also, McAfee is the only reshall on campus that has laundry machines on every floor (this might not seem like much but it is amazing). And there are full kitchens and commons spaces on every floor as well. This part of the floor is a great place to socialize. Also, the tv room on the ground floor was just re-done two years ago and it has the most comfy leather couches; don’t spread the word though… not many people know about this. When I lived there, everyone was always sharing food, having group study sessions, etc. We made a really great community.

Also, the house presidents ("HP"s) the past few years have been incorporating more events in McAfee. Last year’s HP had a ton of events, including a talent show and a McAfee Idol (spin off of American Idol). And next year’s HP likes to have a lot of fun too so she will definitely be creating a lively, fun atmosphere there.

Honestly every person makes their own social life in their reshalls. Especially in the beginning of the year, leave your door open, say hi to that random person down the hall… these little things will make a difference in how much you like your reshall. Get to know all the people on your floor; it will make your living experience a lot better.

Any info on Munger? My room number begins with 1, does that mean I’ll be on the second or the ground floor?

What’s the community like?

Munger is in the quint, though it’s a bit separated from the rest of the buildings (caz, pom, beebe, shafer). It has a really great community though. It is smaller than some of the dorms and its residents are generally very proud of their reshall. I know many people who live their all four years and Munger also has a lot of resident assistants (RAs) who stay there for three years also. Your room would be on the ground floor – Munger also has a basement that has some rooms in it also and those rooms begin with 0. All of the rooms (except for one single that I know of) have wood floors.

Munger has lots of common areas to study or hang out in. And you have a gigantic plasma tv, ellipticals, and a massage chair (Munger definitely has its perks!!!). The room sizes do vary; I think the doubles are on the smaller side and the singles are pretty roomy. Though I have seen first year doubles in Munger and they looked really nice to me. I think you’ll really like living there.

So I don’t confuse people, here’s a list of the reshalls with ground floors or not.

Ground Floor – these reshalls have a ground floor, then 1, 2, 3, etc.
.McAfee
.Bates
.Freeman
.Stone-Davis [this reshall has dorm rooms on the ground floor (numbers start with 0); the others do not]

No Ground Floor – these just have 1, 2, etc
.Dower
.Munger
.Pomeroy
.Cazenove
.Beebe
.Shafer
.Severance
.Claflin
.Tower

Ooh, thanks! That was very helpful :)

Can anybody speak on behalf of Bates?

I would venture to say that Bates has the largest doubles on campus (some say Freeman). In general though, HUGE doubles. Two closets per room. Each floor has a kitchen and every other floor has laundry. Good community – there are definite Bates lovers on campus who would never go anywhere else.

Another question about Munger: how many first years does it usually house? How many on the first floor?

I saw a post on a livejournal community that back in 1994, there were only 16 first year doubles in Munger… is it still like that?

Number of first-year doubles:

Basement (0th floor): 0
First floor: 4
Second floor: 9
Third floor: 9

That would total to: 22 doubles or 44 first years!

I guess housing did some rearranging since the mid-90s…

I got Severance 29 and I hear it’s a triple.
I’m glad I got one of the tower complex dorms but I’m worried the room might be a little crowded. Does anybody know how room #29 of Severance is like?? Also, how is the Severance commuity like?

Sev 029 is a triple in the basement or the “Dungeon of FUN” (DOF). It is on the sev hill side. I believe it has two closets so you’ll have to split that among yourselves. If you creatively arrange your furniture, you can make it really roomy and each person can have their own part of the room. And you do have windows even though you are in the DOF.

The Sev community is good. A lot of people want to live in Sev. Generally, the first-years there bond really well, especially in the DOF. Remember to leave your door open and say hi to everyone in your hall – especially in the beginning of the year, this can definitely help everyone get to know each other and create a really friendly environment.
