Ask an FSU student about freshman year

Where can you use flex bucks? I’ll be living in Wildwood, can you use them at the Diner and Starbucks, because I think that’s the only places to eat or go for a caffeine break near there. I still have no idea where Suwannee is, or the Fresh Food Co. I only know about the Union restaurants and that’s a little bit of a schlep from Wildwood.

Your perception of how “far” things are changes greatly when you get used to the campus. A 5-10 minute walk is really whatever. I don’t know how to explain it, but the walk from Wildwood to the Union isn’t that far.

Flexbucks can be used at:

Suwannee
Fresh Food
Figg Player’s Dining Hall (Open for lunch only)
Starbucks
Einsteins
Freshens (smoothie place)
Quiznos
Union Food Court
The Trading Post
Chilis

They cannot be used at Mom and Pops unfortunately.

^ “I don’t know how to explain it, but the walk from Wildwood to the Union isn’t that far.”

I agree with that. I was nervous about it since people kept saying it was “soooooo far” away, but I walked back and forth from that area and the circus to the union and it wasn’t bad at all. This is coming from someone with scheueurmann’s disease and scoliosis…

That’s true, I did walk from the Union to Wildwood and it wasn’t too bad, but I don’t have my bearings yet and for all I know I took the long way. I figure, I’ll keep breakfast food in my room for the mornings just for the convenience.

Is there a map of these restaurants/dining halls? The map I have doesn’t show it and its key doesn’t even list Suwannee, or any other dining facilities that I can find.

How go tickets to football and basketball games work? Also, should I bring my TV? annnnnd, how is Reynolds Hall? Has it been recently renovated?

is it hard to find a parking spot in the parking garage?

How hard was it to move initially move in? Since a lot of the dorms are far away from parking lots (or the ones nearby are full), I’d imagine it would suck making multiple trips to and from the car to get everything in the room during the Summer in Florida.

When you move in they let you park closer only while you are unloading, then you move your car. You can check in and move in 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. So if dorms open on a Wed at 9am, trust me on this, move in that evening or the next day. It is less crazy. But they do let you park along driveways and streets and in the grass AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT BLOCKING THE STREET and pretty much as long as someone is at the car. If a parent or parents help, keep one with keeps at the car. If it is a nice sunny day, you can unload everything onto a spot on the lawn, move the car and then take everything into the dorm room. You can stay with the stuff and parental can move the car. Move in IS CRAZY. The elevators are CRAZY. DO NOT BE THE FIRST ONE THERE. Moving in in the evening or at night is not hard, the elevators are not as crazy, and you will not want to kill each other by the time you are done. And you will not die as quickly from the sun/heat. While there are hand-trucks to use, there are only a few. If you have a hand-truck in your garage, bring it. Make more small boxes and less big heavy boxes. HAVE FUN!!

I want to re-emphasize… Move in during the evening!!! It will be easier to park and less crowded as Sunny already said.

In the summer, parking in the garages is no problem… in the fall/spring:

Woodward Garage: Easy to find a spot on the 3rd floor or higher at night any day during the week. On weekends, you can get a spot on the 2nd floor.

Park Avenue Garage: Easy to find a spot on weekends. Very difficult during the week (including weeknights).
